We have implemented a new project setting for this project and new default behavior.
----------------------------------------The new default behavior is that only one workunit can be in progress on a computer at a time. We are doing this because this project has high disk use that has been to shown to cause an impact on a users activities if more than one workunit are running at a time. The new project setting is located at the bottom of the Profiles page located at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do It will allow you to indicate that you want want to not be limited by either the bandwidth setting or by the workunit limit. In other words, it will allow the project to run on computer like our other projects. To access the setting you need to select 'Custom Settings' and then go down to the bottom of the page. It reads: Project Specific Settings Run The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 without restrictions? Yes/No The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 is limited on how many workunits a computer can have downloaded at a time and what minimum bandwidth the computer must have in order to receive any workunits. This setting will override those limits. [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Nov 19, 2010 5:21:09 PM] |

Thanks. This is a good implementation. I wish this had been done at the same time the restriction was implemented and a notifying email went out. Would have made things much easier for everyone.

Maybe this should be obvious but it may be worth saying that you need to have Custom Profile selected to see the new option.

For those who select to run this project with the default settings it might be an idea to auto select to "Leave applications in memory while suspended", as this is the recommended setting and it prevents lots of failures. Basically this would safeguard against quiet crunchers not having the correct configurations to run this project.

Let's hope that those select CEP2 in default actually read the Systems Requirements link on the selection page and observe footnote 4.
----------------------------------------The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 4. Users who choose to run this project are encourage to set the 'Leave applications in memory while suspended' option in their device profile Let's promote awareness so that when the science contribution is ended LAIM can be opted out again.

Will be read, forgotten, and boxes checked and ukchecked many times perahps over several years by many crunchers, and can be changed outside the WCG website and in Boinc Manager (where there is no CEP2 warning to remind you why you did it all those moons ago).
Could also add an auto-opt-out for when it is deselected/the project moves to intermittant. |
