Hey welcome aboard, allthough i think this post belongs in the new members forum.

The 10GB setting offcourse is the best setting you can make. You'll get more points for this

Márcio, with a given machine, you give the same contribution regardless of your profile. Though, you can get more points by setting HD space to 10Gig, as you did. If you are crunching 24/7, it is the most you can do.
Regards, Ivang.

Re: More contribution !!!!!!!

Yes, you don't need a monster of a machine to make a contribution. I first joined WCG last November so I was by no means one of the first to join. My single device (laptop) is routinely rated at 130-135. I can max at just shy of 600 points a days. Normally, the agent runs anytime my machine is powered up (not as a screensaver). I find having run all the time has no impact on my use of the machine. Work units vary - I've returned as many as six results in one day and my biggest work unit was:

01/22/2005 0:004:19:04:56 2,801 1

There's about 3 hours a day that the agent doesn't run when I'm commuting but once I get home on Fridays, it runs non-stop thru to Monday morning. The closer you get to running the agent 24x7x365, the closer you will get to max'ing your contribution. Neither do you need a room full of manchines to rank well. I've only got the one machine and my latest stats show:

Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 0:197:01:22:52 (#4,177)
Points Generated (Rank) 116,875 (#4,681)
Results Returned (Rank) 558 (#3,686)

Lately, I seem to be gaining about 100 places every two weeks even though I'm not doing anything different. WCG appeals to me because it's finite. The project will end and there will be results from the project. SETI's nice but I go no sense of a "destination" with it.

There's no secret. Just run the agent as much as you can shock

Re: More contribution !!!!!!!

I've always wondered what's with the 10GB setting? It's almost like the profile is suggesting that the client would like to utilize this amount of resource if you allocate that much but I've never seen hard drive space utilization come anywhere near that. I'm guessing someone will answer me with something like, "well, it's for future use...we're not using the hard drive resources at this stage in the game...but in future projects we might".

Re: More contribution !!!!!!!

Hello dreplogle,
Your guess is correct. The current HPF project fits comfortably within 50 MB. The only use for a larger storage authorization is for points. Some future project may require more storage, however, so it makes sense to authorize as much storage as you can spare on your hard drive.

300......which is the max....at least at UD it is...assume the same here...same agent n all....my 1.5 gb gives 300.....the extra 256mb makes no difference.

128mb..............34
256...................67
512...................134
1024.................267
1280+...............300

roughly.
