What kind of Laptops are some WCG users using?

What kind of laptops are some of you using for the World Community Grid.

I just purchased an ASUS G73 Laptop with Intel i7 CPU and Windows 7-64bit Operating System, 7200 RPM Hard Drive, 6 GIGs of DDR3 RAM and no problems running it 24/7.....so far!!!! It runs fairly cool.

This is my first Laptop that I have ever owned and so far, I really like it.

IBM ThinkPad R40 , 1.3 GHz Pentium M, 1 GB DDR DIMM, Win 7 x86.
Runs good, crunches all projects, even CEP2 but usually only gets to task #13 before hitting the 12 hour time limit. Not a power hog, only 72 watts. Still in great shape, couldn't see getting rid of it. It contributes to find cures. smile

Re: What kind of Laptops are some WCG users using?

I have an Asus G51 (bought 1 year ago) and it has been crunching since day 1. Excellent machine, the few games I play are not the most demanding but all run very well with all eye-candy at high settings @ 1366x768. Your G73 surely is an awesome (and huge) laptop.

Mine has a C2D P7350@2.0GHz and a GTX260M video card. It runs very cool with BOINC at 60% CPU usage. At night I let it crunch some Collatz WUs on the GPU.

If I have to recommend a laptop to anyone, ASUS is my first choice.

I also have a newer Sony Vaio laptop (Core i7) and I still prefer the G51.

Actually bought this refurbished Lenovo Y550P just for crunching! (and help heating my loft...) Crunches 24x7 with the NVIDIA GPU also working on Folding@Home wink

Asus X62J, i7-720QM, 16.0'' LED, Win7-64 Premium + Ubuntu.
This Laptop has run 24/7 since May 2010 and it made about 70% of my CEP2 Sapphire.
No problems at all so far.

Quick update: I ended up getting another laptop. It came with an AMD a6 3400m cpu & built in Radeon graphics. Runs really quick and was very affordable, its crunching away right now!

okmrbh answered to Kateiacy ´s question

I'll be interested to hear how the AMD 3400m does with crunching. I believe that's a Llano chip, right? -- quadcore CPU with the GPU on the same chip? It should be a really nice all-around machine for the money and the power consumption.

Hello Kateiacy, yes it's seems to be a very quick and affordable combination (processor rates 6.5 on the windows experience index). As far as crunching goes it does four units at a time obviously, and seem to run through them at alot quicker than my older Athalon ll does. Hard to tell for sure as the work units time are all over the map from 2 to 13 hrs.

Regards to both

Re: What kind of Laptops are some WCG users using?

Acer Aspire One D257-1471 right now. It runs 24/7 at 100% and doesn't have any heating issues. Definitely not a heavy hitter, but it does push 4 threads. Great for badge collecting. Just downgraded from a Dell Studio 1735 which was just way too bulky and didn't like CEP2 WU's too well.
