Reduced HFCC project priority

Due to an outage of one of the Chiba server's we've reduced the feeder priority for HFCC to prevent a backlog of results. Users with only HFCC selected should be able to continue to get HFCC work units, but users with multiple projects selected will see a reduction in the number of HFCC work units downloaded.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

I hope no/very little data was lost, and that they can get things back up and running again in a small a time as possible.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

Fortunately, even if Chiba did, WCG keeps off-line backups of the crunched data... you know one of those principles... keep an off-site copy of your data in case of cataclysmic disaster as part of a business interruption plan. How that is secured with CEP2 ... not heard, but maybe that talking to the DOE is part of it.

edit: Of course, I do not know if policies and practices changed as this was shared several years ago.

That's correct - WCG keeps backups of the results files that are also sent to the researchers so the chance of lost data in any scenario is very very small.

In this case, there isn't any reason to believe that there is data lost on the Chiba server, it's simply down currently.

Interesting & good to know are user results are backed up. How long is our results kept for? Does holding this information (user results) use Gigabytes of space or Terabytes? Hope theres nothing major wrong with Chiba

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

If I recollect well, the daily HFCC was good for about 300GB daily in results. As indicated by seippel, it's most likely a lossless event.

Just netted in amongst the DDDT2-CEP2-HFCC mix

26-01-2011 13:48 Finished download of HFCC_L3_02789785_L3_0001_wcgrid.00033.gpf.gzb

Batch 278 of 287 almost completely distributed. 9 Batches to go before L4 solidly will kick off.

How critical is the need for the slow down? I can reduce my output if necessary but would prefer not to.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

I see a lack of wu's now. I have this project selected along with the intermitted ones and don't get the full load I usually get. Hope it resumes full throttle soon. To close to my 5 year mark to switch projects.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

TimAndHedy, you don't have to modify your settings. WCG got it all under control. They can control how many HFCC are processed. The only exception is when people like MrKermit comes in and start crunching (or when thousands of new people start crunching).

Bearcat, if you are having problems getting WUs, then just temporarily add your next project into the mess to fill up your cache then remove it. I personally have not seen any problems on my systems that run only HFCC.
