I am very technical and have used BOINC for over 10 years...but cannot figure out how to configure the BOINC client (downloaded 6.10.58 today for a new computer) to only run:
----------------------------------------Mon-Fri: 9pm to 6am Sat: all day Sun: all day...and stops Mon morning at 6am I have looked all over the website and internet in general and cannot find examples. I would think a lot of people are using my particular example. I know this is set up in the Advanced View in the Preferences area but the Help doesn't help. :) There should be examples. If you could explicitly detail how I should configure it, that would be great. I am assuming the timeslots are in 24hour form and do not use the AM and PM descriptors. Maybe you have a screenshot? Thanks in advance! ![]() |

If you enter start - end times you can in fact go over midnight so entering on Monday from 21:00-06:00 means evening to next morning. If you look in the Start Here FAQ's I did a networking scenario for an office worker as a sample. The computing scheme works identical. So since the major crunch is 21:00-06:00 M/F enter that as the main time up top and enter the exceptions for S/S only... it's a bit of fiddling.
----------------------------------------Multiple requests have been put in over the years to allow at least 2 time segment entries per day, but so far no ears that translated that into a client modification. The "over night" functionality is though a good workaround. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 19, 2011 4:33:25 PM] |

I am very technical and have used BOINC for over 10 years ..! Then you must be a TIME traveller!... ![]() BOINC was originally developed to manage the SETI@home project. The original SETI client was a non-BOINC software exclusively for SETI@home. As one of the first volunteer grid computing projects, it was not designed with a high level of security. Some participants in the project attempted to cheat the project to gain "credits", while some others submitted entirely falsified work. BOINC was designed, in part, to combat these security breaches.[7] The BOINC project started in February 2002 and the first version was released on 10 April 2002. |

Then you must be a TIME traveller!... wink I joined the SETI program back when it first began...early 1999 if I remember correctly. And yes, BOINC was developed shortly later as you described. :) -Eric ![]() |

...If you look in the Start Here FAQ's I did a networking scenario for an office worker as a sample. I did already and looked again...I don't see it. I made the settings on my computer as: 23:00-06:00 for Mon-Fri and 00:00-00:00 for Sat and Sun notice there are no spaces in my times...I assume this is correct. Only time will tell. If you could post a link to your example, that would be great. Also, again, it would be extremely helpful if someone updated the Online Help/Wiki page...there really is no excuse not to have at least 1 example. -Eric ![]() |

For those who like to expand their historical knowledge and share: Feel free to research and add "A Brief History of Time with BOINC" to the WCGWikia at http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/World_Community_Grid_Wiki
Thx For the "I am very technical ..." specially for the not so skilled, added this specific needed scenario to topic 2-J of the Start Here FAQ index, with screenshot, for the ultimate K.I.S.S :P --//-- |
