Re: UK

I can't go XP, forgot, I need 64bit sad , so my only options are Windows 8 or Linux Ubuntu.

Also found that the I7-3770k is by far cheaper than the older I7 CPU's, so I'll pop in to the shop and get a re-quote for an 3770k instead.

Will also have to switch off my Dual Core & the Linux I7 for a while as well, as I need to see if I can transplant my new Graphics Card in to the Dual, as GPU doesn't support Linux yet sad

Hassle, Hassle, Hassle... (good job I've just started a holiday, so atleast I have the time to do it).

My stats will take a battering today crying

Re: UK

Got the WCG emailed Newsletter at 04:13 GMT. Posted the Birthday Graphic on Facebook smile and Twitter sad but since I only have 29 'followers' on the latter I don't expect much impact! wink

It will be interesting to see if we gain any new members or if any Inactive members become Active, over the weekend. thinking

Just the one PB to highlight today:
	wimbledog Runtime	1:07:22:43	Points	7,503

Ever since HCC introduced GPU-crunching, my points-per-day seems to have dropped quite a bit, I've noticed...

@ Thargor
Ever since HCC introduced GPU-crunching, my points-per-day seems to have dropped quite a bit

Whilst I can't factor in any changes in Project Mix nor fluctuations in total P/V value, it would appear that the fall in Average RT pd accounts for a chunk of the fall in Average Pts pd: thinking
Avg RT pd 7days to Thu Oct 11 40:00:47:34
Avg RT pd 7days to Thu Nov 15 34:10:30:58
Avg Pts pd 7days to Thu Oct 11 149,954
Avg Pts pd 7days to Thu Nov 15 137,830

Re: UK

It'll be interesting to see how many cries of woe there will be when HCC finishes and the gpu units therefore (probably) run out. I know my daily points total will drop by about 30% at that point. Ah well!

Meantime, just picked up my third Sapphire badge today and nearly in the top 4,000 now too :-)

Re: UK

Nice One Mike biggrin

My Quaddie is back online biggrin

Guy in the shop tested the system and all is fine, but it won't work at home, so I've replaced the powercord and at the same time, replaced the powercord for the troubled I7 as well as the 10 way Surge-protection extension lead with 2x 5 way, in different plugs with only 2 PC's per extension..

Both the Quaddie and the I7 are running fine (infact the startup was quicker on both), and I'm hoping that this will solve both problems, only time will tell confused

I've got Linux ready to go, just incase (BTW, from what I'm reading on google, the Kernel 41 problem is alive and kicking on Win 8 as well crying ).

Re: UK

Indeed Mike it will be interesting to see what happens (assuming) the current run of HCC GPU tasks cease. It won't affect me as I'm not doing any of those units but will certainly affect a few here.

Re: UK

re If HCC (GPU) ceases:

IF it happens there will be no doubt much weeping and wailing, gnashing of teeth, wearing of hair shirts and even prophecies that the end of the world (or the Grid,at least) is nigh! d oh

BUT I find it hard to believe that WCG techs and/or HCC scientists would have devoted so much time to developing GPU processing for it to end in 93 days. Given the rampant success of GPU on WCG, other projects must surely be examining if their research can be adapted to run on GPU.

WCG techs habitually keep their cards close to their chests regarding new projects and whilst there is no definite news of new projects, GPU or otherwise, there have been references to "new projects being in the pipeline".

On a different topic:
Despite the 8th birthday Newsletter being emailed to all(?) members and associated birthday graphics on Facebook and Twitter the UK team have yet to log any new members. Neither have any of the 302 Inactives, or 52 Current InActives logged any activity in the last 24 hours. crying
