Windows server 2008 question

I'm installing Windows server 2008 R2 and I'm going to just let it run as a cruncher. What unneeded services can I disable so BOINC will run the best?

Re: Windows server 2008 question

I would suggest to leave everything as is, but try to limit server roles.

try to limit server roles.

How do I do that and is there a way to have it log on without a password?

Re: Windows server 2008 question

1. leave the server as is: w2k8 comes up with a bare minimum of services
2.do enable the firewall
3. do set a password
4. do copy the I386 folder on the dvd to your HDD - saves looking for it whenever you try to add a usoft service/whatever
5. do move the pagefile and temp files & pointers to a second HDD - not a second partition
6. do install the BOINC s/w and database directory to the second hdd
7. don't bother maxing out the RAM, BOINC will never use it all
8. don't forget the anti-virus if u are going to use IE/Firefox/chrome to browse the Internet
9. put behind a router that NAT's
10. assign a static IP addr.- servers love that

anything I forgot guys?

Re: Windows server 2008 question

Run Boinc as a service, unless you are using a GPU in it.

Disable automatic updates, turn screen saver off or set to blank, and check the power profile.
