Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Contemplation

Beyond inadequate words
Sadly lies the silence
Beyond the silence
Sadly lies the tears
Beyond the tears
Sadly lives the memory
Never to be forgotten

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Thank you, Beverly.
It is very beautiful and expresses what I wish I could express.
When did you compose it?

The Pictures
I grew up with the pictures
Volume after volume on my uncle's bookshelves
Some pictures were benign
Some pictures were malign
And then there were those
Compelling me to shut the book
I knew where they were
I had to look again
and again
and again
But I never got beyond disbelief
Ever since I searched
When I think I discover some truth
A new host of riddles enters my mind
I realize I shall never find out
All I can do is cry
And I do

The original relief “Grieving Woman” from the monument at the
Soviet War Prisoners' Cemetery at Bergen-Belsen
created by Ukrainian sculptor Mykola Mukhin
now on display in the Bergen-Belsen exhibition and documentation building.
It was severely vandalized in 1980. A local master mason took it upon himself to reassemble the relief.
A replica was installed at the restored monument at the Soviet Cemetery.

"Contemplation" was composed this morning after reading your post, little mermaid.

My response to your sensitive "The Pictures"...

Inconceivable but real
Powerful pictures louder than voice
Of human indifference and tragedy
The saddest part is how little people
Have learned through the years.
Hatred goes on and on...
sad

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,

HE LIVED ALL ALONE,

IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE,

MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY,

WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,

AND TO SEE JUST WHO,

IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,

A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,

NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,

NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,

JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,

ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES,

OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,

AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,

A SOBER THOUGHT,

CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,

IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,

I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,

ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,

SILENT, ALONE,

CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR,

IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,

THE ROOM IN DISORDER,

NOT HOW I PICTURED,

A TRUE BRITISH SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO,

OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?

CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,

THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALISED THE FAMILIES,

THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,

OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS,

WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,

THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,

AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE,

A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM,

EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,

BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,

LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER,

HOW MANY LAY ALONE,

ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE,

IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT,

A TEAR TO MY EYE,

I DROPPED TO MY KNEES,

AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED,

AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,

"SANTA DON'T CRY,

THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,

I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,

MY LIFE IS MY GOD,

MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,

AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,

I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,

I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,

SO SILENT AND STILL,

AND WE BOTH SHIVERED,

FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE,

ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,

THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOUR,

SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,

WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,

WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,

IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

Bittersweet by Rumi

Rumi

Bittersweet
In my hallucination
I saw my Beloved's flower garden
In my vertigo; in my dizziness
In my drunken haze
Whirling and dancing like a spinning wheel
I saw myself as the source of existence
I was there in the beginning
And I was the Spirit of Love
Now I am sober
There is only the hangover
And the memory of love
And only the sorrow

I yearn for happiness; I ask for help
I want mercy
And my Love says
"Look at me and hear me
Because I am here just for that"

I am your woman and your moonlight too
I am your flower garden and your water too
I have come all this way eager for you
Without shoes or shroud

I want you to laugh, to kill all your worries
To love you, to nourish you
Oh, Sweet Bitterness
I will soothe you and heal you
I will bring you roses
I too have been covered with thorns
