Today's xkcd cartoon

Hi all,

I thought for quite a while before posting this, as I realise it might upset a few people - but on the other hand, it very much motivated me to crunch even harder, and I'm sure it will motivate others too, so I hope people think that 'trade off' is worth it.

Also you need to know the context - the guy who does these cartoons is young, and his fiancee has been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer, so he speaks from educated and personal experience.

Cartoon is here (warning: strong language at end): Like all 'xkcd' cartoons, the ALT text (text when you hold your mouse over the image) is worth reading, too, when you've read the rest. xkcd 'lanes' cartoon

The cartoonist's announcement about his fiancee is here.

Best of luck to him, his fiancee, and the rest of us who are - or know someone who is - fighting this disease. Let's all crunch on.

Re: Today's xkcd cartoon

Thank you for posting this, alver. I love xkcd cartoons but don't follow them closely, so I had had no idea that this was going on. It is indeed motivating for us crunchers.

A close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer -- a bolt out of the blue for her, too. That sure has boosted my dedication to HCC.

Re: Today's xkcd cartoon

Yesterday, Saturday, I got a members alert from HSI. The main topic is about FHL Concentrated Flax Hull Lignans. The web site for obtaining the lignans is www.flaxlignanhealth.com and I wanted to provide this information should it be of any use.

Re: Today's xkcd cartoon

There's another cartoonist who's addressed the topic of cancer in their strip. Lisa's Story: The Other Shoe by Tom Batiuk is the second collection he did from his strip dealing with the recurrance of Lisa's breast cancer. Terminal disease is not your typical topic in a comic strip but Tom's work will do far more that make you laugh and cry. It will move you in ways you never would expect. It is an eye-opener. His strip, Funky Winkerbean, is one of my many favorites and I couldn't pass up getting this collection.

Re: Today's xkcd cartoon

Thank you I needed that

I am 1 year out from thyroid cancer.

currently I have a clean scan... but this can come back at any time like any other cancer.

It is a day by day thing.

btw the lower grapic on the xkcd is based off of breast cancer.

I chat with other survivors daily who are 2-10 years out and have had re-occourances.

it isn't over with treatment even if they do get it all there are mental issues we deal with every day.

I am so glad you posted this
realize most of us can not get life insurance and health insurance is a pain as well cause of all of the "pre existing conditions"
