I have noticed the number of results going down a lot lately. So I examined my results and found that some of them are taking over 18 hours of cpu time. I have a 2.4 GHz quad computer that only got 1 result this morning since most of them were taking more than 12 hours to complete. This was on a computer that was running over night while I was mostly asleep.

The same thing happened to me several days ago. My estimated times skyrocketed. I checked on Task Manager and found that Adobe Reader was taking up at least one core, with occasional bursts of 3 cores! I had spent several days reading "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson on a PDF file but had closed Reader down almost 2 days earlier. I used Task Manager to abort Adobe Reader and my CPU efficiency quickly returned to normal.
The first thing to try is a reboot. That can fix a wide range of problems. Lawrence |
