Re: A quick calculation of the cost of running WCG

Today spend an hour on the phone talking to Enel Energia [the gas provider], who also sells electricity, which until now I did not know. They are part of the ENEL group also selling electricity, but because of competition rules had to split. Long story short, they offered today fixed price 36 Euro's per month for the first 2700 KwH all inclusive of service, metrage etc and above 26 cents per KwH, which is 10 cents less than their mother company. In a matter of 1 hour slashed the bill in almost half. Don't care if the power is exclusively drawn from French nuclear power reactors... they buy there at a fraction. Electricity commoditized. Now the plan is to get the Ivy funded with that saving and then retire the 6600 after 5 years of service. That work horse has by my calculation cost 5 times the purchase price in 220V over the past 5 years, running at 170W/H. Scary not, that 24/7 on 1 quad costs 500 Euro annual?

Re: A quick calculation of the cost of running WCG

The cost of Electric is shocking!
I get ~0.17€ per KWh most of the time. At peak it's ~0.38€ (hence I'm 21/7). At low it's ~0.10€.
When you have 3 or more high end GPU's, the running cost is a big consideration.

Excellent. But is in Italy the electricity for the private consumer a free open market, where you ahve competition ?

In Switzerland for private consumers it is a local monopoly. Industrial entities can negotiate but normally private consumers not.

But I decided tomorrow to make a call and see if I can improve my cost.

Re: A quick calculation of the cost of running WCG

European rules of free market and movement of supplier [in name only] We've got the gas group here that does the meter/pipe service for 6 companies that peddle gas. Obviously, with such tight collaborations, there is constant exposure to horizontal price agreements... the European commission always on their tails.

For clarity v.v. the first 2700 KwH, this is the annual number spread over 12 months... i.e. base 225 KwH costs 36 Euro monthly. This compares as 16 cents new, to 36 cents old contract which has the 'fisso' fees on top too. The 36 Euro is all inclusive environment surcharges and the whole shabang. Moreover, this tariff is 24/7, not any peak hour traffic surcharges, which struck me as not of this time.

For the moment, clam happy with this new price arrangement. The traps we'll figure out when the contract arrives in print... nothing signed yet... fast as it is by phone, it takes 45 days for the transfer to take effect on paper. Given the measurement of the Peak Potenza, I'm sure that the 2nd or 3rd year they'll be coming with revision proposals... you know all about the longevity of deals too good to be holding true for long.
