I have no idea how long this has been going on. I just let the thing run. Every once in a while I check to see what it is doing.
Last time I checked was 3 or 4 weeks ago and there was not a problem then. Saw this a couple days ago and have not had time to check into it more until today. This is a currently running HCC WU; CPU time last checkpoint 351909:44:28 CPU time 351909:44:28 Elapsed time 00:13:43 This is a currently running GFAM WU; CPU time last checkpoint 05:13:31 CPU time 05:16:09 Elapsed time 6:51:13 I have HFCC and C4CW running on here too and they seem to be fine. Running version 6.10.58 under Debian testing. This does not happen on all HCC WUs. WTF? And what do we do about this? |

You could start by resetting the project on that machine. Any work units in your cache will be re-downloaded and start fresh along with fresh copies of the science application binaries. You could also check that you haven't developed a memory issue by running Memtest, preferably give it a 24hr run rather than a quick test in case the trouble/instability is heat related. Failing that you might have accidentally update one or more of the 32bit libraries to an unstable revision, but Debian isn't really known for that kind of thing so it's a long shot.
----------------------------------------Do you have enough swap space allocated? Just another thought, but if it's getting bound up for some reason swapping stuff in and out from lack of space ... another long shot I know. Last thought is that the system just needs a good dust out. If you're getting hot spot weird things can happen. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

I will run a mem test but I think it is all good, hasn't been that long since I did that.
This is decktop with good cooling in a cool room so I have my doubts as to a cooling problem. There are 3gigs of ram and 3 gigs of swap on here. I allocated a generous amount for boinc as I, off and on, run CEP2 on here. Just checked and there is "only" 14gigs free in that allocation. Been running on here, usually with the boinc-testing version, for about 2.5 years and have never really had any trouble. This is installed as the testing versions generally are in user space. All in /home/<user name>/BOINC. This is handy if running it on Ubuntu-testing releases. If one breaks you can just shift the whole thing to another install. Never had any trouble doing that either. This really has me confused. Will try resetting the bugger. Should have thought of that myself. Thanks a bunch. Will report back after a bit. Have a couple long GFAM units I will let finish up before messing with it. |

Well I just do not know what the deal is here at all.
Finished off the GFAM WUs with no problem at all. Reset the bugger. Reloaded my c4cw, hcc and hfcc WUs. Started 4 hcc WUs. Aborted 2 of them for the same old song. Had suspended some so that c3cw WUs would start. Aborted one of them for doing the same thing. Can't, for some reason run 6.12.34. Bugger will not start at all. 7.0.2-testing will start but the menu bar only has an underlined F at the far left which will open that menu which is nice but seeing that I suspended from the the menu I can't restart anything . So I am reinstalling 6.10.58 after I get a fresh download of it. Will try to reset again and see what happens. |

This is some other kind of problem. I can't get any of the three available versions to run.
7.0.3 actually on a clean install did best and looked good. Added WCG just fine and then lost the menu bar again. Clean install of 6.12.34 would not open. Clean install of 6.10.58 would not add an account. Going to give this a break tonight. First time in 2 years I will even shut the box down. |

These types of problems (work units freezing) are almost always heat or memory related. Best of luck making it work.

Your ISP hasn't install deep packet inspection or some kind of throttling have they? The measures being put into place to placate the media industry associations have already started to have negative effects on some people and it's only going to get worse, though it's unlikely to be interfering with this just yet. Another thought: maybe your HDD is going wonky. Might be worth running some tests on that as well. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

OK. It may be fixed.
First thanks for the advice. I did not know if it was hardware related or software or server or what. Heat has never been a problem and I keep this puppy cranked as far as it will go and still do some other things. I have been getting updates for the Liquorix Kernel fairly fast recently. I went to it as it is optimized for gaming and I thought that may be good for boinc too. Has been great for a year. Got wondering about it though. Didn't even have the standard Debian Linux kernel on here. Spent a day and a half working on other drives that needed some extensive care that I hated to do with boinc running. Got them pretty well straight and installed the "right" kernel. Only been running for about 1/2 hour but the WU properties look good. Was only taking seconds for them to be funky before. Sometimes it is best just to leave things alone. Afraid I am not real good at that. Thanks again. |

I am hoping someone in this thread might have a suggestion/answer for me about a problem I have been having since Friday. I have been seeing a problem on my laptop which returns the error message -
Microsoft Feeds Synchronization has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Has anyone seen this message? Do you think it may be a problem with the DSL? As for a DSL problem, I have not seen this problem on my other three machines (2 are quads and the other is a duocore tower). Any help would be appreciated. |
