Can't get simple view

Today when BOINC started it was in advanced view and I can't get back to simple view - the option is greyed out and if I try Ctrl-shift-v it just makes a "ding" sound and doesn't change. Tried reinstalling but it didn't help. Any ideas?

Re: Can't get simple view

Hello MattShizzle,
My BOINC switches back and forth between Simple and Advanced view without any problems. I suppose that we should take advantage of the Advanced view ( biggrin ) by having you post the Messages so we can see what version you are running, etc.

Re: Can't get simple view

Thanks MattShizzle,
Everything looks good. Windows 7 - 64 running BOINC 6.10.58 on an Intel I5 with 1 Climate Prediction and 3 WCG projects. The only thing that I am unfamiliar with is the effect of the Climate Prediction job, but that should not make any difference.

Can you think of any changes that occurred just before you noticed that the simple view had stopped working?

Re: Can't get simple view

Not really. My computer died on the 28th of December and I got a new, faster one that had the old HD downloaded to but I was using it since the night of the 30th and reinstalled BOINC either that night or the morning of the 31st and it was fine until today. I also run milky way, LHC @ home and cosmology but have been running them a long time. Nothing changed between last night and this morning that I know of.

Re: Can't get simple view

I'm using XP here, but Win 7 should be similar. You can try editing the registry (if you are comfortable doing so).

First exit the BOINC Manager completely making sure that it is not even in the taskbar. Next start a cmd window and enter regedit and look under the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Manager

GUISelection should be set to 1 for advanced view startup. Modify the value to 0 (zero) for simple view startup.

Exit the Registry editor and start BOINC Manager again to see if it will start in Simple View.

I have no idea what you are saying. Might as well be speaking another language. I am very non-computer literate. I don't know what a "registry" ,"cmd" "GUI" or "taskbar" is.

Re: Can't get simple view

OK, let's try this. On BOINC Manager, click file, Exit BOINC Manager to stop the manager.

Now open a new (empty) Notepad and paste the following lines in red into the empty notepad

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Manager]
"GUISelection"=dword:00000000

then click File, Save as...

in the top Save in box choose Desktop

and in the file name box enter simpleview.reg

finally click Save.

Now on your desktop, there should be a file called simpleview.reg
If so, just double click it and you will receive a message asking if you are sure you want to add the info to the registry, click Yes and then OK.

Start BOINC manager again to see if it starts in Simple View.
