Hello all,
This is the official statement saying there is an estimated 18 days left of new work to be sent out. In addition, we will be changing the way work units are distributed for this project. Previously priority was given to work units that were children/grandchilden of the original parent work units. We will be changing this to give priority to parent work units (so these will be sent prior to children/grandchild work units). This will allow for a more consistent supply of hcmd2 work units until the end of the project. Thank you for all your help and support with this project! Seippel |

Glad to hear of the distribution change, that should smooth things out considerably. The difference between 18 and 30 days really doesn't matter as it wouldn't have changed my crunching behavior. Besides, I'm sure this one is notoriously difficult to estimate.

Changes my priority - this was one of my 'favorite' projects for many reasons. I would like to have contributed much more. Glad the science project is coming to an end, and hope the results prove useful.
Wish I had known a bit earlier so I could have made changes that bit earlier, but thanks for the heads up. |

Well, my first estimate was out by a little margin...

Lawrence Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Phase 2 - Il reste 18 jours de nouveaux travaux @Seippel My understanding in my translation is that (forgetting about repair jobs of any kind): 1. 18 days addresses the distribution of the very last parent WU 2. There will be no child/grand-child WUs distributed from now on until this very last parent WU has been distributed. Please confirm, or explain if I have misinterpreted your statement. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Jan 27, 2012 5:41:10 PM] |

Wish I had known a bit earlier so I could have made changes that bit earlier, but thanks for the heads up. If my understanding (as shown in my previous post) is correct, Seippel's statement is more or less equivalent to a 30-day warning. Consider all the many children and grand-children which will have to be distributed once the last parent WU of batch 2467 will have been sent. |

Well, I already made to the gold for HCMD2 (which was my main milestone), then I decided to crunch some more and make to 100 days (a nice round number) and I also made it to that minor milestone. So now there are 18 days left of HCMD2 parents to crunch... hhhmmm... Since I want to participate in the last crunch for this science/project, I'll have my old desktop tackle this effort. hhhmmm.... I swear... It seems I'll never make it over to GFAM

@Seippel My understanding in my translation is that (forgetting about repair jons of any kind): 1. 18 days addresses the distribution of the very last parent WU 2. There will be no child/grand-child WUs distributed from now on until this very last parent WU has been distributed. Please confirm, or explain if I have misinterpreted your statement. Currently, the project completes about 50,000 workunits each day. There are:
A 'Parent' workunit, on average, generates 2.5 descendents (i.e. if a workunit has 2 children and 4 grand children that equals 6 descendents). Thus we have somewhere around 700,000 workunits left to distribute. This gives about 14 days of work (plus the 3 days buffered in BOINC). The estimate refers to the estimated date where we run out of any new work for the project. [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Jan 27, 2012 3:59:28 PM] |
