I see a PS3 can be used to crunch @folding. Anyone using a PS3? Cheap investment to crunch with.

Re: Round 3 - GPU Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer

PS3 may sound cheap up front but is actually a power hog compared to modern PC's and GPU's. They were great a few years back but today, not really worth using unless you just feel like running it for the heck of it. Also, not all PS3's will work anymore due to SONY removing the Linux OS on an update a few years back. So, YMMV on getting it to work.

Edit: a good history here...note the PS3 slim is what they sell now and does not have the Other OS option. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3 They also only use a 3rd of the original PS3's power. IIRC GPUGrid.net originally was PS3Grid.net as well.

Edit2: after a little more research, evidently you can still fold over at FAH with the slime line PS3, just no BOINC. http://www.setiusa.us/faq.php?faq=ps3

Re: Round 3 - GPU Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer

Hi all,

I still have one of these betas that is pending. I crunched it promptly on March 16th, but my wingman got shot down, and a replacement never got sent out.

The ID is
BETA_ X0000132761156201202241103_ 1

Will these ever be sent out?

Re: Round 3 - GPU Beta Test for Help Conquer Cancer

Unfortunately, due to the issues we were having with the environment this week we were unable to resume the beta testing this week. However, we should be able to resume next week (as long as Murphy doesn't strike).

Can't wait to see how this 680 performs. Good or bad.
