For those interested:
----------------------------------------I'm not sure this will apply to these WU, since it may be a CUDA specific problem, but word is that the latest beta driver 301.24 has fixed the monitor sleep/resume issue that has been causing many problems in the BOINC NVIDIA GPU world lately, again I don't know if this affects OpenCl apps on NVIDIA cards. (A different user, not me) FIRST POST I did 7 Setiathome offline Benches last night and couldn't get it to fail (But i'm using a different monitor to when i could get to fail with 295.xx drivers), Before i upgraded i grabbed some BRP4Cuda work and have done some of it this morning no problem, In a little while i'll downgrade to 295.73 and check i can get offline benches to fail on this monitor. SECOND POST:I downgraded my i7-2600K/GTX460/HD5770 host to 295.73, ran a setiathome offline bench, proved that the cuda apps do fail with this monitor, then upgraded back up to 301.24, If you have a 680, it appears this beta is "basically" (from what i can tell) the 301.10 app that 680 users were allowed to use, but for 500 series and below cards, so I did not get it myself. EDIT: Decided to test it myself on Einstein app, and after letting monitor go to sleep on 301.10 for several minutes, I checked EVGA precision and my gpu usage remained steady. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 10, 2012 8:50:46 PM] |

I have GPUGrid. They posted a warning not to use Invidia 295.X. They have not lifted this warning.

Nor do I reccomend using 295+ unless you tell your computer to never turn off your monitor. If you set "put your monitor to sleep after x minutes" tasks fail, if you set it as never, they won't fail.
----------------------------------------For those who don't turn it off manually, this will prevent failed WU. I to crunch GPUgrid, and have made the post there, and I expect them to respond (test it themselves) by tomorrow. Literally thousands upon thousands of WU have failed on different sites b/c of people who let monitor go to sleep with 295+ series drivers. Again, I don't know if this is CUDA specific, or would also apply to OpenCl apps on NVIDIA cards, but if this is the case, WCG (and the voluteers who did not know this) will have tons of failed WU after their monitor goes to sleep, unless they tell their computer to not let it. Meant to be a friendly heads up, because it has caused MANY problems. Again, 300x seems to have solved this problem, but choose beta carefully (as always), or wait WHQL 300x comes out. This is great reporting on your part.
----------------------------------------My GTX580's are, of course, on a desktop computer. While my laptop monitors go dark after 10 minutes, I see no reason to do the same with the desktop monitor. Cheers. |
