Re: New BOINC version

Hi.

@ SekeRob, yes we will have to wait for one of the PPA to put out a newer version. wink

@ Kateiacy, using the mouse to pull the left side of the window to the left works o.k. it's still
a pity they had to break it to start with. sad

Thanks to both of you.

Re: New BOINC version

Hi everybody ! smile

Personally on my Windows machines (7 and XP) I still use version 6.10.58 because it is the one that can be downloaded from the WCG website.

Is there a reason why there is not a more recent version available from the WCG website ? Is it really useful to upgrade to a more recent version (even if it is not the latest one) ?

Re: New BOINC version

If you're inside IBM's network, you'll follow the Borg method: Assimilate, we are one, in version. WCG is doing the procedure of testing, auditing and ensuring that the 7.xx client meets all expectations, to include that company workers incur the least interruption from BOINC running on their systems. Anticipated upgrade date: Fall 2012 (7.xx still has known bugs!)

Re: New BOINC version

The advantage to upgrading is pretty much in the arena of supporting other projects outside of WCG right now. For example, you need one of the later version 7 clients to run Albert@home GPU work. Since WCG does not have a GPU app yet, many of the volunteers are using their GPU's elsewhere and so may have a need for compatibility with those projects.

Re: New BOINC version

Thanks for your answers Sekerob and Coleslaw. smile

So upgrading to the latest version of the agent would be useless for me (I run WCG only).

Sekerob, I agree with you concerning my company's network. wink I did not say it in my first questions, but I was wondering if it is worth upgrading the BOINC agent version on my personal computers only (crunching 24/24 at home, never connected to the IBM network). Of course I will not upgrade the BOINC agent version on my Thinkpad laptop used at work, which will always have only the "official WCG version".

Re: New BOINC version

Anyone know how to get short-dated WU's(repair) to jump to the top?

(boinc v. 7.0.28)

I used to set: switch between applications to 6000 which worked.

Thanks

Re: New BOINC version

Yup, increase the Minimum Buffer [the old connect every, but behaving differently] ;>) (The switch trick setting of 6000 minutes stopped working last I tried. Set e.g. 2 days MinB and 2 days MaxAB. Every time I get an repair task, they race ahead, with as low as a total buffer of 3 days. Unless you have special reasons, 4 days is 4 days deadline.

On the topic of New BOINC version, a new build 7.0.34 was released [for the Lion guys of interest], but the bug fix list is long and has quite a few "all platform" fixes. The oddest is the drop of support of .tga [used by WCG in task files] and .bmp due licensing issues. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6698&nowrap=true#45381 . No idea how this impacts the WCG tasks for those who try .34. Maybe knreed is aware and there is really no concern. Will tests ASA a windows or linux build is available for the graphics portions.

edit: extended para 1.

Thanks SekeRob
I just like getting them out quick. Also works for the Beta's when we get them.
