It seems that NVidia's ears ( or possibly their backsides ) must have been burning cuz I just saw on their driver download site XP listed for the 680 now.
![]() But for now it is only available on the Beta drivers... http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us I think the 680 will get better performance when they get the drivers straightened out. Reminds me of when I got my GTX 285 card , it was a Mess ! When I played games it acted like someone had put a brick on the gas pedel and at times the FPS went up well past 200 FPS for a while then , overheat and blue screen... But after a few updates to the drivers it turned out to be a pretty good card. |

Until Nvidia comes up with better OpenCl support their cards will lag behind ATI when it comes to crunching tasks that use it. I doubt that any new drivers will help that very much if at all. It's a wait and see game for now.

Interested to know how the GTX580 is doing. I am not on the beta, having enough handling the T4T project and the CERN VM test project.
----------------------------------------I have twin GTX580's to run GPUGrid, Einstein, Milky Way and some SETI. On those projects they are doing fine. But WCG could be a different story, so I am interested. |

Besides the fact that yes, they will always be behind ATI in OpenCl IMHO, the 680 issue is not because of XP support or what have you. The only thing that I (emphasis on I) can think of, is that these HCC tasks must use, or OpenCl is attempting to use, the 8 FP64 cores on the 680, which is why it's so terribly slow.
----------------------------------------All other projects that use the FP32 cores are seeing about a 25% improvement over the 580. Yes, it could be a driver thing, however I personally feel that it's not the case. Don't know if it's the slight architecture change to CC3.0 or what, but these HCC tasks do not like it. Further, I've made up my mind (unless performace improves to that greater than a 580), I will be buying a ATI card seperately for this project. The fact that the CPU uses 100% of a core throughout entire task on NVIDIA, even though it's not needed, bothers me too much (wasted CPU resources, and wasted electricity). Again, this is just my 2 cents. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 20, 2012 7:11:08 PM] |
