Working hardware

Has anyone compiled a list of acceptable GPU video cards for users with PCI express slots? In other words, I need a list of cards I can choose from to plug into my mainboard and apply the GPU to WCG computations.

Re: Working hardware

Isn't this still in BETA and liable to change? What seems to work today, might not work in the future when GPU app is put in to production.

You are absolutely right.
The lists I posted are just general lists of cards.
Now is probably not the time to commit to one or the other.
I was all set to slide a 680 in my cruncher but... maybe not... sad
I'm gonna wait and see when the GPU project is up and running before I decide.
I did run some Beta's on my kids game computer with a GTX 560 Ti [448] and it did OK , but my 24/7 cruncher is still waiting for final results to come in.

Re: Working hardware

Probably gonna be awhile before that happens judging by knreeds most recent message. This is why I too am waiting to select another GPU. Once the project is officially getting ready to rev up, I'll buy then.

Yes but it is unlikely that WCG will not allow the newest cards to not crunch for them either. The safest thing to do is to wait and see, but if you MUST buy today the newer the better is the rule of thumb. If you end up getting a card that does not work here you can always use it on another Boinc Project such as Collatz, they take almost any card that has at least 128 meg of memory on it. Of course that low of a memory based card is VERY slow and will not entice you very much about the capabilities of gpu based crunching! BTW 128 meg of memory is probably TOO LOW for WCG!! I personally buy nothing less than 1 gig of onboard memory gpu cards, although I do have some older ones still hanging around that have less on them.
