Actually there is no user's request. Windows is just closing without any wish to do that. How can I stop Windows closing ?My new PC is a HP HPE h9, running under Windows 7. Any ideas ? vep ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by vep at Aug 6, 2012 7:14:17 AM] |

One of two possibles:
----------------------------------------1) It's unlikely the website device profile option to let BOINC go to sleep after 20 minutes of no user input [default]. Stop work after computer is idle for: 20 minutes Or set activity menu option to Run Always. 2) If not, don't know what language your OS is, but with W7, type in Power Management in the Start Bar menu search bar which will bring up things as what to do when on battery or when mains drops. That's where you have to state what you want windows to do when power is out. Had it on Friday (a scheduled 10 hour power-out, which we thusly planned to do a mountain hike). Immediately computing was suspended [on batteries BOINC function], and after 20 minutes the laptop did go to hibernate, logged with your messages plus the message that the OS requested to shut down. Activity menu is set to run always.
I'll try 2) The PC is not running on battery. I suspect the PC is trying to save energy. The power is, and was, always on. |

You can also type Power Options in the search box and then select High performance which means runs always at full power. There is also a Boinc setting to stop Boinc itself if the pc is more than 75% busy but that doesn't seem to be your problem right now. ![]() ![]() |

For Windows 7, select (Windows icon, formerly START) - Control Panel - System and Security (the actual heading, not any of the sub-menus beneath it ) - Power Options (again, the heading)
This lets you choose the High Performance button, as mentioned in an earlier post. Be warned. The Power Plans can be frustrating. I spent days ![]() Lawrence |

Thank you, I would never have found it alone. At the power options it was stated "put the PC on hold after 20 minutes". I've put that to "never". I suppose it did it. I'll check tomorrow.
Thank you again, vep |

It's funny how American-English British-English and Belgian-English versions of Windows 7 are not as smart as Italian-English. When I type the mentioned "Power Management" in the search box, it pops up a list of 4 power related config options, one of which is "Change when the computer sleeps". When selecting that, I get the below screenshot, which shows the plan is on High Performance :D
Not relevant anymore, but to point out that I'd recommend a tweak in the overlaid screen, to ensure that anyone who pushes the power-button will have to log in again... in case someone tries to "borrow" the device, or just for plane security reasons. ![]() With conclusion of that, please edit the opening post title and insert [RESOLVED] just as this post, closing the case. |

Resolved, although in French it was not always evident what was the translation of the English
