I just noticed that I was listed as part of team SETIKAH@KOREA, with a join date of two days ago (4 August 2012). I never joined this intentionally, and immediately removed my account.
Does anyone know how this can happen? Is it a possible server error? I would like to prevent it from happening again. |

Were you a member of any team before? Did you recently browse teams whilst signed in?
----------------------------------------How this can happen [a first I've heard of] I don't know, so cant tell you how to avoid this, but looking at the subject team page http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=33JH13V1TT1 it's easy enough to accidentally hit the "Join this team" button. Really don't know what happens after hitting the button... whether it requires a confirmation, but vaguely recollect that if you were a member of a team before it would retire you of that one at the same time. edit: It's something WCG techs could trace, IP, time of action etc. If not a member of a team and you have a weak password... but that would be unheard of. What would anyone stand to gain but embarrass a team infinitely? (Whilst, *someone* at some point was hijacking captainless teams and giving them a different country link. It's weird to see a team change from representing one country to move to another.) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 6, 2012 12:14:51 PM] |

I have never joined any team, and haven't even been to that webpage before. But the date corresponds to when I joined GPUGRID, so I must have done something there inadvertently, though I don't know why it would affect WCG.
----------------------------------------Thanks for the input, and I will just avoid it in the future. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Jim1348 at Aug 6, 2012 12:20:10 PM] |

Check at GPUGrid what the team state is for you. There's a BOINC global team feature, and WCG being on new server 700 [since March], something buggy(?) could have remotely kicked this. No idea if WCG has this enabled. At BOINCStats your listed as being part of that team: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/search/#Jim1348
The BOINCstats site does not work for me at all under firefox since their revamp. In IE can see that you're only member of that team at WCG. |

Check at GPUGrid what the team state is for you. I just checked, and it is listed as "NONE". But my browser cache shows that I visited this page on 4 August, which is when I joined GPUGRID: http://www.gpugrid.net/team_join_form.php?id=712 Also, I visited POEM, but my team is listed as "NONE" there also. http://boinc.fzk.de/poem//team_join_form.php?id=1086 I didn't click on them as I recall, and if I had, I should have been listed on GPUGRID or POEM as being a member of that team. But somehow it got forwarded to BOINC or WCG or wherever. (I use Firefox 14.0.1, so who knows what happened.) [Edit 3 times, last edit by Jim1348 at Aug 6, 2012 1:19:46 PM] |
