Even if I don't, it's okay. At least my # of results is going way up. :)

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 58 smilesmile

Gday All,
Wish I could keep this up but will be dropping back to regular numbers soon. Normally I've got a Core 2 quad desktop and a Core 2 Lappy running 24/7. Lappy was a bit old (2007ish) so upgraded to a new gaming beast a month ago with an i7 giving me 8 cores concurrently (4 real plus 4 HT).

I'm pretty lazy with checking the forums and didn't see that CFSW was about to finish way early and even with my 14 cores I would need a miracle to make another 400 days for Sapphire in 2 weeks. Long story short I started a new job last month and got access to 8 x Core i5 lappys at work adding another 32 cores a day to output. I can't keep this up though as the lappys were being unused the last few weeks so win/win for me I grabbed their clock cycles until work needed them again. Next time they're free from work I'll bring them online to crunch again.

I'm getting once off massive days as don't have permanent internet access on the 8 x i5s. Have to take down a 3G wireless hotspot every couple of days to upload results. Fingers crossed I think I've just got enough in the cache to make Sapphire on CFSW.
Cheers

My first post from my iPhone. Bored, waiting for some continuing education to start. Then a dreaded staff meeting!

coffee coffee coffeeGood Morning MOT coffee coffee coffee

Busy Busy Busy.

Great on the points Vuj. Like Kieth said, any and all from anywhere helps to find the cures and make the team totals better. smile smile

On the High Priority thing, I understand why they do it. And I don't think it is IBM but rather the BOINC system. Odds are that the high priority ones are ones that someone else did not get done and people are waiting on validation. It really all comes out in the wash anyway.. points you don't get today, you get tomorrow or the next day. Peace.

Regards All. Have a great day. smile

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 58 smilesmile

Most of the time, or perhaps all the time the BOINC agent on an individual system decides to run something as high priority if it's in danger of not making the deadline. The annoying thing is when it does makes that decision and some WU that's 99% done gets interrupted. I saw this happen several times on a borrowed laptop that helped me "go green" on CFSW. For no particular reason it would stop running a nearly complete WU to run another one with the same deadline. I didn't see that behavior until I got about 9 days of WUs cached, which I would not have done except in the last-minute drive to get the emerald badge.

BTW, the borrowed laptop had an AMD E-450 dual-core "APU" running at 1.66 GHz. Not a good system for crunching. I have another system that's a 1.3 GHz Pentium M (~2005 vintage), that crunched the WUs nearly as fast. We're talking only a few minutes difference here - about a 5% difference for these two systems. I would have expected closer to 30%. On the other hand, the AMD system completely blows away the Pentium system on "graphics benchmarks", a.k.a. games. I had to try out a few, strictly for scientific purposes wink . The integrated graphics the AMD processor had performed quite well in terms of frames per second with fairly high detail levels, but it failed on several beta WUs that it tried to run.
