I haven't really been paying a lot of attention to WCG for a while, tho I had noticed that on this comp it was periodically having problems seeing the internet. This morning I did a looksie and find I am not and can not get any new tasks now. It had a task up that was not running and nothing I did got it running nor did I have a second task for the second processor (duo). The second comp is running and has tasks, although it is on a separate profile. I closed and restarted BOINC - no change. Aborted the current non-running task - no change. I then changed the profile on this comp to the profile running on the other comp (with no apparent problems) and still no change.
----------------------------------------I am at a loss as to what to do now. I should also add that it is also not requesting any work even tho there are no task currently running. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 6, 2012 3:36:24 PM] |

Not accidentally hit the No New work button in the BOINC Manager projects tab?

No LOL - that was the first thing I looked at. I won't say I am not subject to 'senior moments', but that was one I hadn't made,
It does look like it is trying to download files for qh180-189_qh185 and having no luck connecting with the server, but since it did not request any new work, I am not sure where these files are coming from. It has tried so far, for 5 times so I am going to leave it go until tonight to see if it reconnects with the server, or if the other comp starts having problems after it finishes what it has going. That to me, would indicate a possible account problem, than something just with this computer. |

I have not checked World Community grid for awhile either, and just noticed that I also am getting no work. I have one work unit stuck in download that is all that is showing on my computer.

OK, try follow:
In the Transfer tab, abort the download. In the Tasks tab, abort the task In the Project tab, select WCG and hit Update on left. It's possible the stuck download blocks the rest. |

I've been having that same problem for 3 days now, and every time I update, it resends the same tasks that get stuck and hold up the rest. I must have pages and pages of failed downloads and ran out of work half a dozen times because of it. Tried resetting the project, now I can't download anything, not even the vina app or project files.

[EDIT: 2 days later and everything has returned to normal operation, as far as I can tell.]
----------------------------------------I have the same problem as mentioned in the above threads. Almost a week where "active" tasks sit idle, no computations in progress. Have followed the abort/update suggestion above, received task downloads, but no activity detected. Is WCG aware of this issue? Is it an artifact of the same issue from this August?? Just had the same issue myself. One downloading WU got stuck and my cache wasn't bringing anything else in. Took actions as mentioned by SekeRob above and all was fine. Uploads and task reporting were working fine as per log:

EDIT: SUPERCEDED - I'm up and running again now, and this turned out to be a problem with my local machine. False alarm, my apologies. Not sure what had happened to my machine, but I think an OS X update had failed, and the whole machine had got so badly stuck I couldn't even shut it down, and had to force a power-cycle. Yuck.
----------------------------------------I'm getting "Temporarily failed download of [various files]: connect() failed. I'm supposed to have a 5 day cache, so I don't know if this has been going on that long. ![]() (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) [Edit 3 times, last edit by alver at Sep 10, 2012 9:55:00 AM] |
