Device profile won't save

When I edit my 'work' device profile I change it to 'custom' and hit save which it confirms. When I go back into the same profile it has been changed back to 'minimum'. Is this a known bug or operator error?

Re: Device profile won't save

I'm trying to change my profile because the CPU is pegged at 100% (laptop fan is running at full speed all the time). Thought the Device profile would do this. Custom profile seems to be the only profile type that allows CPU customization. Tried to change this using the BOINC Manager client but can't seem to get those settings to take (Advanced -> Preferences -> processor usage).

Any recommendation on how to get this throttle back the CPU and how long the setting should take would be appreciated. Activity --> Suspend seems to work!

Re: Device profile won't save

The BOINC throttle does not work well to control the cpu. It works with an on/off mechanism i.e. 60% throttle would be 3 seconds on then 2 seconds off. Inelegant. Other users have reported good results for an application called TThrottle at http://efmer.eu/boinc/. See if this solves your problem.

Cheers

Re: Device profile won't save

Hi Tingey,

Try this: delete the profile altogether, then re-create it. It did the trick for me.

Cheers!

Re: Device profile won't save

Here's a link to a set of FAQs on Device [Location] Profiles. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17033 Occasionally changes do not get saved, but you can verify by going back, select the custom button again and verify if the changes were saved or not. The italic bit in the FAQ is though of importance. If you do not change any of the key settings that make up a pre-set profile for instance in Standard Profile, next time you revisit, the profile will show to indicate that the key Standard settings are still in effect:
When saving a Custom Profile (CP) and all options of the above table have remained unchanged from pre-set, the device profile on next visit will show the original radio button as checked, e.g. Standard Settings instead of CP. All other changes will though have saved properly. This helps to signify which of the pre-set profiles form the base of the CP on later visits.

Re: Device profile won't save

Hi Rob,

I thought that perhaps it wasn't saving my custom profile because I hadn't changed any setting so I did try that but still got the same results which I see from your post is working as expected (settings are saved just not visible until you select the customer profile again).

Thanks for pointer and clarifying how this works,
