Was it the fatal attraction of GPU crunching, or?...

One thing to note is, that yesterday, Monday October 15, was the first "post-summer" day where more than 400 runtime years were recorded. 405 to be precise.

12/10/15 405:229:06:39:28 677442661 1195,683

Maybe it was the word of GPU crunching that had many return to the (WCG) fold or become a new arrival... Welcome to the machine where our holodeck might make some cure dreams come true.

Crunch On.

Re: Was it the fatal attraction of GPU crunching, or?...

Reason for me to return was the cold weather in Germany that cools down my flat. It was a sheer coincidence that it was just in time GPU crunching has started. Well, that helps a lot in warming the rooms. smile

Re: Was it the fatal attraction of GPU crunching, or?...

Compared to CPU-crunching in CPU-computing, GPU-crunching in GPU-computing is so...:
1] Sexy, Cool, and Modern.
2] Compute-efficient, Energy-efficient, and Space-efficient.
3] New method, new thinking, and new possibilities.

Exciting, isn't it? The CPU can't make even half of the excitement. But we all owe it to the CPUs for allowing GPUs to play its magic!

i have also spotted this "anomaly". let's hope that from now the winter season is coming to the GRID and we will get more devices attached back every day!

Re: Was it the fatal attraction of GPU crunching, or?...

This GPU computing has turned the WCG world on it's ear and even more, allowed someone with an older machine to be competive with just the addition of a $250.00 video card.
Also the potentials for work done vs electricity used is way up and thats a very good thing.
I'm going to see what will happen when I toss in a good card in one of my old sammy( Sossaman-dual socket essentially Yonah laptop chips) systems that draws 90W at max cpu load.
We have a new era here for WCG and I think thats a lot of the excitement and interest you folks are seeing..

I would think it would be, since In as little as 5 days, Ive done over 2,000 results for the project.
