I have yet to investigate this but it may be that running a different driver will help as, so far, I see that with different machines running different drivers the behaviour of the cards changes. On my HD 7770s, I would get errors once every day or so on the drivers prior to 12.11. But with 12.11 beta 11, I get practically no errors. I am presently running two work units on single card (non-display), but have done four with no errors, though that was not for long. I don't recommend pushing the GPU to the limit if you want to avoid errors. Also, I routinely do a clean uninstall of old drivers, especially if you once had an Nvidia card in your system. I uninstall from the control panel first, and then run Driver Fusion. [SOT]What OS are you using? Just asking, because some people here have posted that they have had a problems with this driver (Beta 11). Sorry, Win7 64-bit. On one machine (with an E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU) I just got errors with multiple work units. On another machine with an i7-3770, I got actual crashes with BSODs with multiple work units. But I have only tested the 12.11 drivers on the first PC, so don't know if they also solve the crashing problem, though I expect that they do. Sorry, i don't see there an solution for me!
----------------------------------------I installed some weeks ago a Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 2 GB on a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H with 8 GB RAM. I got 3 pages on the statistic with errorous task and about 11(!) pages with finished and valid tasks. So there lies the rabbit in the chilli-pepper! :-D the dog buried... whatever The AMD card is surely not mentioned at the start-up so i do a manually restart of the BOINC when i do not need the PC for myself anymore. Is it the project? Some of the WUs? BOINC itself? Extract from the standerr.txt: INFO: gpu_type set in init_data.xml to ATI INFO: gpu_device_num set in init_data.xml to 0 Boinc requested ATI gpu device number0 Unzipping input images ../../projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/X0900092850746200709251334_X0900092850746200709251334.zip Processing jobdescription Number of Images defined in image list is 2 Found compute platform Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. The error is occurring when it tries to get the list of GPU devices and select the appropriate one that BOINC has selected to run on. Not sure what the issue is but it may be related to the ATI driver. I would make sure you are running the latest ATI driver. I am modifying the Help Conquer Cancer code that gets the GPU device to run on and will hopefully have a new version for beta testing soon. Will keep you posted.
Thanks, armstrdj |

Thanks, I'm smelling the nice aroma of the beginnings of GPU-optimization! Come one, come all... Have a GPU? Then you are good to go... then ! Time now to up to ante... Are you also thinking about possibly dovetailing GPU-WUs ?armstrdj ; ; andzgridPost#795 ; |

... I would make sure you are running the latest ATI driver. ... Thanks, armstrdj Thanks for the infos about this problem; and there may be an problem?!? The Gigabyte board has an onboard Radeon HD 3300 but in the BIOS it is deactivated - and can NOT used to crunch WUs! In the messages of the boinc-manager is only the activated graphics card mentioned: Radeon HD 6670 I'am using the updated fglrx-driver with is in the Ubuntu repos: fglrx-amdcccle-updates 2:9.000-0ubuntu0.1 So i look forward for some beta WUs to crunch... ![]()

Dovetailing work units will not be in the update. At this point there is no plan to add that.

Thanks for the response, armstrdj.
P.S. I'm doing manual dovetailing of four-concurrent HCC_7.08-GPU-WUs. For my setup, the fastest performance I have discovered is when the separation between said WUs in a dovetailed-set -- is at 13% to 17% progress-percentage. ; ; andzgridPost#800 ; |

Short respond:
----------------------------------------Works for me now fine, no more errors in the last days (or weeks?). ![]() Crunching now with boinc-manager development version 7.0.52/53 (Xubuntu 12.04.2)
