Transfering work to another computer

I recently made a mistake when setting the work buffer on one of my computers. I meant to give it 1.0 days, and gave it 10 instead. The computer promptly downloaded a lot of WCG work. The problem is that this computer is used quite frequently during the day, so work is often suspended on it while the CPU is in use for other functions.

My question is this... is there any way to transfer this work to another computer that has only a few tasks? I know that several tasks will exceed the deadline unless something is done, and I hate aborting the work unless I absolutely have to. I have a about 5 days left on most of the work as of the date of this post.

Thanks.

Re: Transfering work to another computer

Hi,

Sorry to hear. No, work fetched by a computer has to be reported by the same computer, it certainly cannot be split. [Unless you're the real expert, too many things can go wrong and the server rejecting would be a waste]. Just go ahead and abort whatever oldest you think the device cannot complete in time and others will pick up these jobs. Keep the newest that still has the longest deadline in the future.

Happy crunching.

edit: P.S. Did you recently change your member name? Your stats are not traceable at BOINCStats: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/search/#tweetihd though your local stats show you have 51 days contributed, last result about 3 hours ago.

Re: Transfering work to another computer

Wow, that reply came a lot faster than I thought. Thanks for getting back so quickly.

I am by no means an expert, so I'll start aborting some of the tasks today.

And no, I haven't recenly changed my profile name, it's just the one I use for WCG. I don't know why I followed their advice about not using my real name, like I do on all my other BOINC projects. Maybe I'll change it. Anyway, if you look up Rusty L. Clark, you should be able to find me, although I don't have very much crunch time on those other projects either. I originally started Seti@Home back in 2003 (I think), but then I went to Korea and started deploying left and right (I was in the Army), so didn't switch to BOINC until just recently. Now my family has 5 computers in the house, and all of them crunch when they're not being used.

Once again, thanks for the quick response.

Re: Transfering work to another computer

OK, that's fine having a different name, an alias, which is recommended indeed [Identity theft starts with a real name]. Some choose to have a different name on every project they participate in, or a consistent nom de plume, but the same email address ensuring that the statistics roll up to 1 person, so in this case, tweetihd adds to your Rusty totals at BOINCstats: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/detail/2579960/projectList

Let crunch on.
