pcwr, thank you for putting up this interesting set. Would you mind explaning what you have in mind? Because this is not your ordinary 'Animal' 'Flower' type ![]() 1 vowel: Add 2 vowels: - could that be Ada? or would I need Aachen or Aalborg? Double letter: - could that be Ally? Ology: I didn't even know the word - would that be the last line of these possibilities for instance anthropology Phobia: - this I know about ![]() Number: - that could hardly be digits written in letters, or? 1 vowel: word has only 1 vowel in it eg set 2 vowels: word has only 2 vowels in it eg aid, telling, level double letter: eg add ology: word ending in ology eg biology phobia: eg coulrophobia (phobia of clowns) number: eg seven, four, billion, set Patrick ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by pcwr at Mar 25, 2018 5:56:35 PM] |

Thank you, Patrick.
I'll do my best - and you may correct me; I'm so used to being corrected that I think I'm wrong if I'm not ![]() |

Y is a vowel when makes a syllable or completes a diphthong. Y is a vowel in the words rhythm, system, syllable, mystery, and cyst. Here it takes the place of the vowels E and I. In the word "boy" it creates a diphthong (oi), so it is a vowel. |

In the word "boy" it creates a diphthong (oi), so it is a vowel. Would that mean that 'y' is a vowel in 'canyon'? Or is that different because it's sort of a Spanish diphthong? I never saw the 'oy' in 'boy' as a diphthong. It says 'oi' all right, but to me it's more like 'oj', because we pronounce 'j' that way where I live ... Very upsetting ![]() And how about the 'y' at the end of 'mystery'? Do we have 'y' as a vowel after 'm' but as a consonant after the 'r'? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
