Whats next after this project?

Does the World Community grid have plans for a new project? we only have 30% left to go on the Human Proteome Folding project.

confused Re: Whats next after this project?

This thread just duplicates the 'Whats next?' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2612
Most of the recent information released is in the topicless, directionless thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2881

There is a process defined in the PDF files available at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/submit_a_proposal.html
The main thing to note is the Review Cycle at the bottom of that page which states:
Submit Proposal Application By: 6/30/05
Receive Notification of Approval By: 9/30/05

So the current status is - - multiple projects under review - nothing finalized.

I will go out on a limb and say that we can reasonably expect multiple projects (at least 2) to be available when the current HPF project ends. I have already gone out on a limb by predicting that one will be for the ISB, folding selected proteins using the high-resolution method (HPF2).

We are at the stage where you [discreetly] ask scientific peers: Are these people competent and reliable? Is the research program well designed? Can they execute it? So I do NOT expect lots of excited chatter from the administration about what's coming next for a while. Before boldly striding into the unknown for the advancement of humanity, it is a good idea to get a long pole and suspiciously stir the leaves just ahead looking for hidden bear traps.

On the other hand, after 30 September 2005, questions might bring replies.

Re: Whats next after this project?

We have received several proposals for new projects and are running them through our screening process. We will definitely have another project available before HPF1 completes.

We are always looking for additional projects. If any member is aware of research organizations that might need computing power, please make them aware of World Community Grid by pointing them to this page where they could submit an application or if they have questions, they could contact us via the Contact Us link found on the bottom of the page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/submit_a_proposal.html

my preference is that we stay in the area of human biology, biochemistry, genetics, proteins etc.

Re: Whats next after this project?

That's an intriguing question...
Do any of the officials have a concrete answer for us? Or do we just wait to be informed? Not that the latter is a bad thing, I'm just wondering.
