confused Dell PowerVault Help

Hi All
I've been given a Dell PowerVault server, it is fully working but the admin password has been lost/forgoten (not been used for a while). Herein lies the problem!

I'm aware of many 'password crackers' for Windows, but does anyone know of one that will work on the Dell Pixy (wrong spelling?) boot system?

It is a windows 2003 server, I think it is the data server version

Anyone provide some guidance/suggestions please?

Many thanks (in advance)

Re: Dell PowerVault Help

I believe it is PXE not Pixy. But, I could be wrong. I however don't have any pointers on this one.

Re: Dell PowerVault Help

If you are speaking of the BIOS password, the old standard operating procedure was to remove the battery from the motherboard for a minimum of 30 minutes. This would reset any existing password back to a blank. Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: Dell PowerVault Help

Thanks Joe, however, I'm after the Windows admin password.

The question is really do the Windows password crackers work with PXE boot devices?

Re: Dell PowerVault Help

For the Windows admin password I have used a Linux based tool bundled in a ISO downloaded and burnt to CD to blank the password on a Windows 2000 workstation.
Similar may work for server as long as the boot disk is not encrypted.
If disks in a RAID array these should present OK as one to a CD/USB linux boot but check.
Need to check you can boot from CD (or USB) for this to work.
Some Dell desktops I inherited have BIOS passwords and CD boot locked out but will boot from USB if you hit F12 for boot menu at power up.

PXE boot is over the network, often enabled on workstations and servers but not used.
Another way you could use it but needs another PC to serve the boot image.

Suggest try with a live Linux boot CD or USB to confirm it is powerful enough to be worth the electric bill, a server with Windows 2003 implies old.

Paul.
