Re: device name change from generic localhost

Sorry, with the present version of BOINC for Android you cannot, and if you can, it is good until the next power cycle. A future release will address this.

Re: device name change from generic localhost

For the multiple 'localhost' device operators, a next BOINC version will list the MAC code instead.

"David Anderson [Sun, 4 Aug 2013 01:42:11 +0000 (18:42 -0700)]

client (Android): allow GUI to pass MAC address to client via set_host_info(). If domain name is "localhost" and MAC address is nonempty, use MAC address instead of domain name when showing host on project web page."

What's the MAC code?... It's a rather unique identifier of a networking device like this: 0E:1B:1F:21:1B:BC. I'm using it to filter on any unwanted infiltration of my WLAN... friend or foe, the foes can't connect... no roaming passers by taking a free ride :D

Protest: At the developers please.

@Admin: Please move this thread to the Android support forum

Thx.

Re: device name change from generic localhost

I'm running Version 7.2.8 on two Android phones (DROID RAZR M, Android version 4.1.2, RAM 1GB, ROM 8GB). Both show up on WCG Results as 'localhost'. The gui_rpc_debug shows (among other things, after Re-reading cc_config.xml) the following: <domain_name>localhost</domain_name>.
It would be great if the domain_name (device name) could be changed under "Preferences" or anyway the developers see fit.
In the meantime, how can we edit the cc_config.xml code to differentiate between devices?
Thank you.

Is it possible for us to edit the cc_config.xml code on the Android now or in the future?

No short range plans for editing domain name in cc_config.xml, if that is what you are asking about.

Lawrence,
I rather expected it was going to be closer to long range than short range planing.
Thank you,
Rory

Re: device name change from generic localhost

I see someone mentioned having more than one android device in use. How do I add a second phone to my devices?

The same way you added the first one.

My second Android phone is an older one that I was no longer using. I loaded up Boinc and it uses wifi for connecting to WCG.
