Hi,
Just downloaded the BOINC client from Google Play and installed on Galaxy S1. I start it and select the WCG project, enter my user name and then password. It goes to a new screen and I get a tick for Connect but a cross for Verify account: Password refused The password is correct. (as is the user name) Any ideas? -- Zoot |

My Grid - My Profile lets you check your email address. Then My Grid - Sign In Manager lets you recover or change your password. This will make you sure about your password.

Thanks for your reply.
So, I sign in with my email address and not my WCG user name? I checked my password via Firefox's password remembering service and also logged in via Firefox on my desktop and manually typed the password. It worked. |

Thanks for both your replies :)
I tried again this morning and noticed that the phone's spell checker added a space after Nerper (like the spell checker does for each word you accept). I deleted this space and then entered the password and all was well. Boinc has never complained about the user name being incorrect. I had previously tested the user name by changing it slightly (took out the space between Zoot and Nerper) and using the correct password. This was to see if Boinc reported the same error message for any login error or if when if said "password refused" it meant a mistake with the password only. Bionc then said the user name did not exist. Cheers |

BOINC for PCs does not listen to spell checkers i.e. it accepts what you type As-Is and as you found the Android app version does [You probably added Nerper as a legit dictionary word?]. A good case to remember. Please edit your Opening Post title to include this pointer for others who stumble on the same issue like I did to this post.
Please also report this finding to the Google Play Store Android forum. Joachim may be able to stop spellchecker who're on auto-correct from doing this for the app specifically. cheers P.S. Suppose the error message could be misleading when in fact the member name was auto-corrected, at least this is what I understand. It probably should have said that the member name was unknown, but then there could be a second member who aliases you ;>) |
