Out of interest, who did you go with, and what spec is the new machine?


I went with Wholesaleinternet in the end, $69 which came to £42 for a Dual Xenon 5650 with 12 cores / 24 threads running ubuntu =) very happy with the results so far too, I was worried that although I may get loads of runtime, the actual performance / results returned would be really low but I'm pretty satisfied. Worked out that every month will get me approximately 2 years of runtime, 2.5 million points, and 4,500 results returned, I don't think thats too bad for £42 personally =)

Mike_UK last made a brief appearance in Feb 2014. For a longtime he ranked in the top 3 crunchers for the UK Team but his heyday was before I joined amd since he's never posted in the forum we've no idea how his personal circumstances have changed.

Exact same server/company as mine, then, but what project(s) are you running as your points-earned are higher than mine? I'm guessing a mixture of MCM and FAH, and that MCM's longer-running work-units aren't as point-efficient for crunching?

Yeah, I'm just running FAH and MCM (and Beta but obviously no work yet)
Are you just running MCM then? its CEP2 I really want to run, want the 2year badge, but I'm worried about the RAM usage, only have 8GB, and 4 are used to run the 24 FAH/MCM units, may add just 4 CEP2 and see what the RAM usage is at and decide from there

I'll just mention that currently there are NO CEP2 WUs being issued.

cleanenergy posted earlier today:
WRT the validator, we have identified a problem for which calculations could be marked as invalid, when they are in fact valid. This stems from the fact that the first job is a different type (optimisation vs single point) than in the previous library.

We think we have got it sorted, but are just being extra careful. I will contact the IBM guys today to get a progress report, but hopefully we should be up and running very soon.


I still have a half dozen WUs that have been in P/V gaol for ~3 weeks. Hopefully they'll be released soon. wink
