Tell us about your new toy(s)

My new toy I purchased this week is a Microsoft Windows 8 Pro 128G Surface Tablet and this is one toy that I am enjoying immensely! It's completely different than all of the other Tablets out there. The Surface Pro is not only a portable Tablet but a fully working computer. With the keyboard attached, it operates as a laptop. It also has a USB 3 port which is great for USB 3 external hard drives (Very fast indeed.). So far, no problems running World Community Grid 24/7 for 3 days now. I also downloaded, by using a USB drive memory stick the entire package of Microsoft Office Professional and all of the office programs appear to be running fine but I need more time to evaluate these programs fully.
The display is extremely sharp with great flesh tones with accurate and vibrant colors. Superb resolution.

And it's fast! No lag time at all as other Tablets have.

It's a bit pricy but it's built so well with high quality components throughout. Even the keyboard feels great and it attaches magnetically and so does the charger plug. The most easy attachments I have ever used and I have used a lot of computer attachments being an electronic Test Engineer throughout these many years.

It also easily linked, without any problems, to my "Hot Spot" cable modem. Also, setting up email, using Microsoft Outlook was a breeze! And I love the easy portability. The keyboard is easily detachable and you end up, if you want, with a very powerful and portable Tablet.

Aren't all these toys wonderful?

Well, so much for my new toy. Tell me about your new toy(s).

Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

Bob just how long have you worked in Microsoft's marketing department?

I have a lag but that's deliberate

It's a T100 slim bodied electro-acoustic (T100ASCEBLK)

Fab finger picking big sound for such a narrow (~2") body

I love it

Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

I have a Martin D35 Guitar that I do love very much. I like the sound and I use it to do a lot of finger picking. It's going on 6 years old and I noticed the sound is becoming more mellow. Oh, and by the way David, NO I do not work for Microsoft but I do love the way they have designed their Pro tablet. I am not experiencing any lag in my Pro what-so-ever. I did buy the top of the line.....pricy indeed but I liked the superb screen image and removable keypad.

Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

They get better with age Bob as we do

Apologies I have only ever heard Apple fans talk about their latest gizmos like that + the earlier Windows 8 defense of the indefensible wink . I figured you must have swallowed the Microsoft hype hook, line and sinker.

By the way, given that it's a tablet, how do you know it's built so well with high quality components throughout? They might be as cheap as chips and built to a price by Pegatron Corporation.

I'm trying to justify to myself getting the new Nexus 7 but even with the WCG possibilities I don't think i can do it. I don't think it meets any need that can't be solved another way.

+ you've gone and ruined it for me as now I know it will be laggy unlike the amazing 128G Microsoft Surface Pro

Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

Well, so far David, I have this Tablet running 24/7 and it does not over heat and it hasn't hung up and appears to be working as it should and feels very solid and none of the keys stick and it does have a nice screen image but again, the Microsoft top of the line Pro is very PRICY but again, it feels very solid. Now how long will it keep running 24/7 on WCG I don't know but I will find out in time. Also I do like the portability of it and it is an actual laptop. I loaded Microsoft Office 10 Professional into it without any problems using a USB Drive in the USB 3 port on the Pro and it loaded in very fast and again, no problems..

Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

The new toy I bought about 3 weeks ago was a 2014 Kia Sorento with 6 speed automatic transmission, 4 cylinder engine, wave blue color with blue tooth and several "bells and whistles". It's a very spacious SUV and very reasonably priced.

cool Re: Tell us about your new toy(s)

My new toy is a brand new Zalman VE-300 2.5" external rack. Although it might sound ordinary, it is not as it also has the capability of emulating optical drives. What does that mean? It means you can choose between up to 40 disc images that you have stored on it and, for example, you can install your OS without ever needing to burn a DVD first. I have just stuck my spare Corsair F60 SSD in it and it's good to go. Oh, before I forget: it also has USB 3.0 capability which is great!

Cheers! peace
