Apologies if this issue has been posted already (couldn't find it).
Running BOINC on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - so, a reasonably capable device for Android. Plugged in to power and on wifi, of course it computes. Frequently, however, and not as advertised, the battery runs down (e.g. overnight) to zero. I have to assume this is a BOINC issue- it doesn't happen off wifi, so could I suppose be a problem with the connection as distinct from BOINC - but wouldn't know how to prove that. Anyone else have the problem? Steve |

Have had that happen once so far since I've been running it on my droid. Thought maybe I wasn't plugged in properly or bad connection on the cord so I put mine in a outlet rather then using a drop cord. No problem since. Got it running on my Droid4 and now just started to run it on my GS3.

Anyone else have the problem? Steve My Galaxy S3 runs Boinc and Wifi and still charges to 100%. The only problem I have is with the car charger which has trouble keeping up with Boinc, GPS, and a music stream. |

Leftyrex, not all chargers are created equal. I have 3 cellphones (previously had 4) that all run BOINC and or nativeBOINC. I have found that some chargers just can't keep enough charge while others will. Same phone but two different chargers have different results. I have had some chargers that would just maintain the current charge amount while computing. You may want to look into an alternative charger.
----------------------------------------Otherwise, you may try just running it over the 3G/4G connection and disable the WiFi AND GPS. See if it can keep up then. The object is to cut power draw where possible in order to level it out. This may not be ideal, but if it works then it saves you a few bucks on another charger. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Sep 17, 2013 3:41:13 PM] |

Thanks, and point taken that all chargers are equal but some more equal than others. However, I thought BOINC was supposed to shut down when the state of charge went below 90%. In that case, the virility of the charger should cease to matter. My problem is that something is continuing to drain the battery (typically overnight), and I have a suspicion that it's BOINC. Could there be a bug in the app that in some circumstances it doesn't stop computing even at low battery levels? The problem occurs intermittently. I won't stop running BOINC; more that I was curious as to what is going on. Steve |

It could be a bug. That I don't know. The app will use a little bit of charge simply to verify the battery state and such. However, you are correct that the manager should stop the apps. That is where you need to look to verify that the apps are indeed suspended. If so, it is probably just the BOINC app monitoring the devices state. The other big question is... How long does it take to fully discharge. If it is hours, then that is probably what is happening. If the apps themselves continue to run, then you know the manager is not honoring its settings.
