Re: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590

Just a note to say I have decided to carry on with the testing when I have some time to work out what needs to be tweaked to make this monster purrrr...

I've also found a guide to running my FX8350's at 4.8Ghz, shall be playing with that too...

Do I need to add the last line?

Hello again Mamajuanauk ,

Could you share the guide on the FX8350? I just build an FX8350 with Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 rev 4 (on your recommendation.. thanks) and G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB 1866Mhz (2 x 8GB). Currently have it overclock to 4.2.

Current stats...

9/29/2013 12:42:50 PM | | Benchmark results:
9/29/2013 12:42:50 PM | | Number of CPUs: 8
9/29/2013 12:42:50 PM | | 3194 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
9/29/2013 12:42:50 PM | | 10936 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

Thanks again for the info in other posts.... Keep up the good work...

THe O/C guide I mentioned is specifically for the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z MB, so it may not be much help to you. Be careful if you are going to use it a s aguide for your system. However, it can be found Here

Hello again Mamajuanauk:

Thanks for the FX-9590 test results report. If I do build another system, it will be based on the FX-8350.

Re: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590

Now That's What I Call IMPRESSIVE!!!

I just tweaked the FX8350 to 4.8Ghz as per the O/C guide and got the benchmark as below:
30/09/2013 20:44:14 | | Benchmark results:
30/09/2013 20:44:14 | | Number of CPUs: 8
30/09/2013 20:44:14 | | 3525 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
30/09/2013 20:44:14 | | 13363 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
30/09/2013 20:44:15 | | [task] Resuming computation

Only problem is I can't reduce the CPU voltage as it becomes unstable, so for now I'll just have to run 7 threads to keep the temp down a little until I have time to add some more/better fans to the system Good job it's already water cooled as it would have fried by now! It's running at 63 C!

Edit - Corrected typo's

So you pulled the 9590 out and put the 8350 back in? Man I would consider trying to return the 9590 or resell it. I was wondering what you were going to do with the spare 8350 chip. If the 9590 worked out I was thinking make a "barebones" computer for the 8350.

Brandon, no mate, this was already in the other machine running at 4.4Ghz, I just followed the guide and tweaked it further to 4.8Ghz. it is worth remembering this was acheived on the Crosshair V Formula Z MB. I don't know if it's possible on any other MB's

I will get the 9590 to work well, I'm going to improve the cooling, and play some more to get it o/c'd a little and go from there. I have several fx8350 based machines so will keep the removed one as a spare...

Edit - added last bit

Doesn't the Gigabyte mb come with EasyTuner?

This allows some o/c'ing to about 4.2 as I remember, at the click of a button and a restart...

Re: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590

Mamajuanauk

Are you sure the new bios isn't throttling the processor back to stay within the normal power envelope of the motherboard ?

I'm getting 2869 fp mips (a core) out of my 8150 at 4Ghz on a Orochi Core

You have the Piledriver Vishera Core(s) so you should be seeing even more than the 3577 Mips the maths would suggest ought to be possible.

???
