New and having trouble with website and BOINC software.

Hi There I am trying to get my accounts in order to enable me start computing for good with WCG and Ripple labs. I cannot have my BOINC interface find ripple labs or WCG I chose something else. On the WCG I chose ripple labs and all of that is in order. I go to this site: https://www.computingforgood.org/login and am asked for WCG username and verification code. It says it is invalid. Can you help me straighten this out so I can begin working? I am on windows 8 I downloaded version 7.0.64.

Re: New and having trouble with website and BOINC software.

Hello lrawl,
When you go to the WCG forum, you click on Settings in the upper right, then sign in using your member name and password. This brings up the web page named 'My Statistics'. Then you click on 'My Profile' on the left and go to the web page named 'My Profile' which lists your member name, your verification ID and your email address. But when you enter th member name and verification ID on ripple, it rejects your verification ID. Is this correct? If so, better start by asking on the ripple bulletin board. If they can not help you, use 'contact' to send an email to the techs.

Re: New and having trouble with website and BOINC software.

Thanks Lawrence. I think I have that ironed out. I can't see that the BOINC software communicates with the WCG. It is my first day of course. But I don't see that BOINC picked up the "team" and projects I selected through WCG. Also I read some place today I would have a WCF icon in my tray like the BOINC icon.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Re: New and having trouble with website and BOINC software.

Hi lrawl,
WCG is just 1 project as far as BOINC is concerned. BOINC does not have Teams. Each project has its own list of teams, Some people have created teams on every BOINC project with the same name. The BOINC icon in the tray lets you reach every BOINC project that you have selected, incliding WCG. WCG is unusual (but not unique) because it hosts a number of projects instead of just 1. This confuses people, so we sometimes call them sub-projects. I don't, because each of our projects has its own group of scientists, funding and budget, etc. So there is no such thing as a WCG icon, just a BOINC icon.
