I purchased a tronsmart computer. It is a hdmi dongle for a television set. The first thing one notices is the operating system is designed for a touch screen. Since there is no touch screen one can connect a keyboard and mouse to communicate with the computer. The mouse works but the keyboard often does not as there is a on screen keyboard where one must use the mouse to type. One can go to google play and download boinc. It does not work. If one goes to preferences one sees that one can tell it to work on batteries but there is no battery so that is irrelevant. If one tells it to not work on batteries it gives the message to connect the charger to the computer. The computer would not be on if the external power supply was not connected. If one goes to the transfer tab one sees an attempt to download but each has the message that the computer is not wi-fi connected. The computer used wi-fi to connect to wcg to sign me in but than somehow thinks there is no wi-fi connection. One can tell the computer when to stop computing boinc based on how much the battery is charged(from 0 to 90%). There is no battery and no setting works.

Just what OS is on that thing ???
----------------------------------------Edit: I think The reason it does not work is the OS is Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and the processor is an ARM Cortex 9 if what you bought is a Tronsmart T428. I am not sure if WCG supports this particular ARM architecture. Perhaps one of the Android gurus will chime in. Cheers

There is an issue with the BOINC client on android right now. It does not support android devices that do not have a battery. Even if the device is plugged in, if it can't find a battery it returns a code to have the agent suspend.
The main developer has recently gotten his hands on a Oya to figure out a work around. Thanks, -Uplinger |
