CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

We have increased the limit on work units to 18 hours instead of the standard 12 hour that has been the norm.

Thanks,

That's incredible news, Keith! applause

Let's see how many WUs complete the full 16 job cycle now! coffee

Edit: Keith! I meant Keith! Sorry about the confusion and thanks SekeRob for showing me the light.

Re: CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

The present series' average, drums rolling, was the below, and instead of 12 jobs, they're doing all 16, no skippin'. 3.54 hours all it is now.

dd hours
06 9.30535
07 9.27622
08 8.73968
09 8.14542
10 7.33690
11 6.41744
12 5.55651
13 4.94034
14 4.37197
15 3.98295
16 3.68801
17 3.54186
18 3.53826

When they come... let them rip.

An interesting suggestion from a member, and I concur, postpone the compression/transmission for x-minutes, for instance not before any newly started CEP2 task has reached checkpoint 1. It is the observed killing moment for many machines, setting up a model and at same time run the compression of any other CEP2 completed result. Have sat there on the new octo watching Elapsed time count for minutes before CPU time starts incrementing from 0:00:00 whilst an upload is being prepared. It seems to be worse with the latest series, leading to zero status exits and or heartbeat issues.

Re: CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

P.S. Supposing the 18 hours is hard-coded in the app, noticed on one machine that did CEP2 before, a new 68MB zip was being downloaded. Just in case some wonder.

And these babies take on test, 2:40 minutes Elapsed before the first second of CPU time is recorded, on a 4770.

Re: CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

Sek, the 18 hout is not hard coded. I wonder if the large zip file was cleaned up by BOINC client due to not using it?

Thanks,

Re: CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

Rings a bell, vaguely remembering it does something of the sorts [when an old app version is superseded by a new one, thusly what was experienced with MCM 7.28 and then when a legacy 7.26 repair was being assigned, trying to re-download the app... and we know what we suffered in the previous week v.v. the No closing tag issue.

Looked through the log, it did half a dozen CEP2 in the week before, then switched profile [mainly disappointed by the poor efficiency of this new series]. No resets / detach - add cycles. The version number is unchanged, 6.40, so without any type of signature / md5 / timestamp change see no reason why it was re-downloaded. Bad habit if you ask me if this is a BOINC design feature... can do without re-fetching 200MB total on some platforms, every time the cache runs dry of CEP2.

Re: CEP2 work units to have 18 hour limit

Suddenly my queue looks like it has about three weeks work in it and jobs are running "high priority" in panic. (I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash). Also getting abnormally low points. Good thing I don't track BOINC point (just hours).
