"No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers [RESOLVED]

Hello all.

I'm currently running 20 computers with boinc flawlessy. I recently got the opportunity to add another 20 computes to that pool two days ago. However after being powered up and ready for two days now, only 5 out of these 20 computers are actually working. The others are just stading there with an error message displaying "No work avaliable to process". I tried re-installing, ressetting the project, attaching and de-attaching, but nothing seems to work. I figured I'd give them a few days to see if anything changed, but so far no luck.

It's disheartening to seem them just stand there with nothing to do, so really hope you can help out. I have pasted the log from one of them below.

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

Pending an authorative response from a tech or CA I think the problem is
Fri 20 Dec 20:09:53 2013 World Community Grid Message from server: This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks
This FAQ gives some guidance on daily quotas

You may find the problem clears shortly after midnight UTC.

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

Hey jonnieb-uk, thanks for the reply.

I was thinking about that myself, but it just seemed odd to me that it only had gotten one task in +48 hours and not increased the daily quota. I also noticed that only half of the inactive machines are reporting this - the other half are just trying endlessly to fetch jobs with no mention of any quota.

I'm going to let them continue trying to fetch work over the weekend, but if anyone else has any other suggestions don't hold back :)

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

I have no knowledge of Macs but a couple of things worth checking:
1) Have all the new machines unique device names?
2) Do the device names appear in results status?

My thoughts are that if the device names are not unique it may have confused the server.

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

Another couple of lines which look odd from your messages:
Wed 18 Dec 17:52:55 2013 Memory: 4.00 GB physical, 891.43 GB virtual
Wed 18 Dec 17:52:55 2013 Disk: 931.19 GB total, 891.18 GB Frie
This shows a huge virtual memory 222 times larger than physical memory.

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

This is normal for Mac OS-X to take the whole disk as VM, but it's not locking the space.

Re: "No Work Available to Process" error on multiple computers

Hey ca05065 - all computers do indeed have identical device names. I'll try changing them to see if that improves the situation.

The devices names appear on the result status page, but I have no idea which machine is which. Some of the machine have a "Detached" code in the status column.

Thanks for the advice.

That was indeed the case. Changing the device names seems to have done the trick!

Thank you for the support.
