Greetings,
The posts regarding Windows 8 and Mac OS 10.8 are over a year old at this point. How difficult is it for WCG to put out a new client with the updated BOINC in it? I would think it shouldn't be this difficult.. or this long without updates.. Lets face it, most people using WCG do it because they want an easy to manage simple drop-in program and don't understand all the various distributed computing projects out there. Is there a simple way for end-users to install the correct boinc with a WCG front-end that will make it easy to manage and familiar? Or for slightly more tech savvy users to do it in a way that will make it easy and automatic for the end-users to understand and manage? |

The version that WCG puts out has to be thoroughly security checked and verified before IBM would puth their name to it. After all we are the ONLY ones who use https version, the rest of Boinc is NOT secure. This is to satisfy commercial companies that it is SAFE to use

Maybe IBM should check with the NSA then. :P
But seriously, a year? Is the new windows 8 compatible version that much different? Or is there any way to trick the new version to somehow interface with WCG as an account manager? according to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Account_managers WCG doesn't.. it says something about changing preferences. I don't want to change preferences through it, I just want to be able to have the systems I install this on be automatically fed and return projects. |

Oh, I just answered my own question.. you can ADD it as a project, but you can't configure it through an account manager. It would be good if WCG added this quite simple step to the info/download page about running the projects until the main WCG client is updated for compatibility.

I cannot see your problem. I have been using Win 8 at WCG for over a year now. OK I do not use the "WCG"Version, I use and have been using Boinc Version 7 which does the job. You do not have to wait for WCG to use Win 8, use something elso until IBM get a new version out, they are just as easy to use
