Hi all! I've just received my new laptop, with a i7-4500U. less performances than my previous but My score will went up! :) I would like to know who made the laptop and if you have any heat problems. My laptop is a ThinkPad I got before the I5s and I7s, and it does get pretty warm while I am using it. I had Windows 7 installed to replace my XP system and I like 7 much better. My son got his own computer with an AMD processor and Windows 8; he likes it although he thinks he is having virus problems. Thanks for any info, Dave, Pierre's new machine was a replacement from his work. I believe it's a Dell Insperion with the i7 chip. Thanks Keith. The reason I asked is because I have a problem with getting too much heat from the laptop. I am trying to control the way the heat gets to my legs, but I thought the I7s ran pretty hot. It's indeed a Dell Inspiron 17 with an i7 chip, the system cooling is worse than my older laptop (Asus N73SM). I need to limit Boinc to only 50% of my CPU usage and GPU disabled in order to keep a correct temperature. With my Asus, it was possible for me to use 100% of the CPU and the GPU (the CPU was at 50°C = approx 122°F). My result are not as good as previously but I have no choice.. I will try to install a new dedicated server with boinc installed but it didn't want to boot for the moment (DIMM Memory problem I think). It will be a HP proliant DL360 (G1 or G2 for people who know ;) ) I will keep you informed for this new work unit! ![]() |

Anyone using an android device to crunch. Installed nativeboinc on my galaxy tab 3 and my first result was 0:000:05:42:27 206 points I deleted it because it ran all day for that result. Trying the original boinc app now. Anyone find any good settings for thid app? Im hesitant to put it on my galaxy s5 still. Using the Berkeley Boinc app first result. 0:000:06:09:21 162points This one is much faster yet the points are less. Even though it says a faster time for the nativeboinc, that result took all day. |

Chris, so while the nativeboinc used less CPU time, its elapsed time was much greater. That would mean that the Berkeley BOINC would allow you to do more work (and more points) in the same amount of time. I presume that the phone wasn't being used for anything else during this so it would appear that nativeboinc does something that slows it down considerably. It may be much more memory intensive that results in a lot more page swapping. I/O is very time consuming. |

I'm using Bionic 7.3.12 on my S3.
Not having any speed issues or nothing. Had it on my S3 for almost a year now I believe. |
