I do not see the actual words "Computation error (194,)" but the following four WU seems qualify for this thread.
----------------------------------------However, only 4 of my MCM1 WU failed and 155 were valid so despite the funding issues mentioned above I will keep MCM1 selected for downloads. The computation error and other error codes may appear in the event log. Certainly BOINCTasks shows them in the status column in the history. Also, if you use the API to export the Results from the Result Status pages you get a column with the ExitStatus. These are all I've seen at WCG since starting to collect them for special purposes analysis:
4 Error: 4. SIGILL: Illegal instruction 8 Error: 8. SIGFPE: Floating point exception 9 Error: 9. SIGKILL: 11 Error: SIGSEGV Process got signal 11 13 Error: 13. SIGPIPE: 15 Error: 15. SIGTERM 26 Error code 26 (0x1a, -230) 99 Error: process exited with code 99 (0x63, -157) -186 Download Error 193 Signal Error SIGSEGV 11/exit code 193 194 CompErr, EXIT_ABORTED_BY_CLIENT 194 [Finish File Present, Too Long] 195 CompErr. (unknown error) - exit code 195 (0xc3) RC =0x1 202 Server Aborted [By Project] 203 User Aborted via GUI 214 Error, Unzip of input failed. Exiting. 216 Error Unknown - 216 239 (Unknown error) - exit code 239 (0xef) 248 Error, exited with code 248 (0xf8, -8) Not exhaustive, various wikis give complete lists, note the 194 is not the task, but the client being irritated by what was deemed to be a race condition... the result file is written, but somehow has not closed. I'd boot the machine, yes boot the machine and will tell whoever comes again with serial errors out of nowhere: boot the machine. |

Will boot in a few minutes. I believe you have told me this before. My PC is not the only thing in this room with memory problems.

The reverse could also be said, that no other country pays for even one programmer or even part of a programmer that writes software that saves lives. Now that sounds like a pompous presumption that cannot possibly be proven true, IMHO.You are suggesting that no country other than Canada, where the WCG is located, has any IT staff working in health care, accident prevention, disease control, quality control, water testing, medical supply manufacturing or regulation of children's toys. I know Canada has many dedicated people working in all these areas and there is much government funding. I guess there might not be anyone doing this work in the US but I know that England, Germany and Australia all have advanced IT staff in these areas and all are supported by government funding. |

I know it's an old thread, but it did not seem to reach a conclusion about the cause of this error.
I am encountering them several times per day on one machine, crunching OET ... I tried searching the WCG forum for "Finish file too long", with & without quotes, and nothing useful happened. So I tried it with quotes in DuckDuckGo and got https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=10354 which contains Sekerob's link back to here. [OT] What ever happened to the talk of upgrading the WCG forum software? [/OT] I was interpreting "file too long" as meaning that there were extra data being scribbled onto some WU result file, but Richard Hasselgrove's post at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=10354&postid=62717 gave me the clue: "I think the "too long" message refers to any delay between signalling that the app has finished, and the process finally quitting." So "too long" refers to time! (Ambiguous - should be changed). Now for my 2cents' (or $20's) worth. For some months I've been running the machine that's now getting errors under Linux x64 from a 16GB USB stick. Until recently, it was a high-speed USB3.0 stick in a USB3.0 port, and system responsiveness including the Xfce GUI was very good. There were no errors crunching WCG. Then BOINC crashed and would not restart, and I could not reboot Linux. The USB stick has set itself to read-only and it cannot be mounted under either Linux or Windows. I was able to dd the entire 16GB device image to a new USB2.0 stick without any read errors. On another machine I ran fsck -f -y on the newly-copied Linux partition, put the USB2.0 stick into the first machine, booted it and continued. WUs that were in progress restarted and continued successfully. System responsiveness is pretty terrible, and it's generating FFPTL errors, which I guess are happening when BOINC activities are forced to wait for higher-priority Linux filesystem activities. Another HDD is in the mail. |

Interesting, as I vividly remember a tech guesstimating it was a race condition, but if it is what Richard H. describes it becomes ", took too long" with a comma insert, which I always thought was the missing break in the message line. You might be able to prevent this by setting a Pause break if the non-BOINC load is over a percent. Mine on all platforms are set to 50%. This for me has resolved the crashing for CEP2 in particular, timing out at 30 seconds, the 'call-home' maximum interval as sign of 'I'm alive'.

I have had a system running Linux mint 16 64bit off of a 8gb USb 2 stick for quite some time. Still runs flawlessly. Granted it has been running all MCM units, not any Vina projects. If either of the Vina projects are running when MCM finishes, I will switch it over and see if it generates good results or encounters the errors you describe. (provided it is still functional
