System Maintenance: Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 01:00 UTC [completed]

Per news as received via the agent notices: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=379

Just curious if this is the final installment of "World Community Grid will be performing a hardware upgrade as we move to a high performance clustered file system", as now read that in several maintenance notifications.

Made it a ! post, for those not on a version 7 agent, and guests biggrin

Good to see a bit more information has now been added. The original material didn't say anything about length or severity of outage.

Re: System Maintenance: Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 01:00 UTC

I was going to create a new forum post for this, but I will just tag team onto this one.

The server updates have started about an hour ago. A few of the redundant servers have been rebooted and verified. We are going through them and should have an outage to the website/BOINC databases in about 45 minutes estimated.

lavaflow, the statement about doing a hardware upgrade was a copy paste job by me and I missed it on my review. The updates happening tonight are software related, which require a system reboot due to kernel updates being part of them.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

The feeder and file uploads are about to be stopped. Members won't be able to upload files or download new work.

Thanks,

System Maintenance: Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 04:00 UTC
30 Sep 2014

Summary
Routine system maintenance will be performed on Sunday, October 5th.

World Community Grid will be performing routine hardware maintenance starting Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 04:00 UTC. The window for this maintenance activity is estimated to be 6 hours, although we anticipate the actual outage time will be less.

During this time, various parts of the website will be unavailable as we perform the hardware upgrade. In addition, volunteer devices may not be able to fetch new research tasks or return completed work for a period of time during this upgrade. No action is required by the members, as the BOINC/World Community Grid software application will automatically reconnect to our servers once the upgrade is over.
