8 or 9 years if I'm VERY lucky. I doubt I'll be able to retire before 70. I was 14 months away from having full retirement when IBM tossed me aside back in '09. All I salvaged was a small pension (I was on the old plan, not the cash balance joke). I started drawing it immediately so I could get as much of it as soon as I could. If IBM ever finds a way to get out of paying it and can get their hands on that cash, they'll do it. That's what stinks about all the big IT places - employees are just another expense to be managed just like the one for toilet paper. It is not just the big IT companies... It is all of them. Lucky I escaped when I did. I didn't know you were one of the IBM employees that got kicked out. I was forced to retire after having put in 44 years, but I moved all of my money to an IRA rollover (well over a million) that I used to remodel the house and moved the remainder to a Roth IRA. The taxes for doing that are something else! I was not with IBM but a very large corporation. All the big guys are doing much the same. I voluntarily retired (got out while the getting was good).
