Hi Keith,
I just wanted to let you know you still have readers of this forum. You said things have been fairly hectic and it should calm down tomorrow... what is going on? BTW, have you heard anything about new projects? It's been quite a while since MCM started and much longer since the beginning of faah. I know CEP2 has been around for quite a while and I am thinking about including it again in my project list -- I only hesitate because it always seems to take up so much of my resources, but I think I should be able to get to 10 years. |

Thanks Dave. I do notice folks reading our thread at times (this shows up at the top when you're browsing the thread), The crunching is clearly the most important. Having folks read our thread is next on the list. Usually, someone looking for a team will likely at least look through a team's thread here to help pick a team. That's why keeping the thread active is number three on the list. WCG doesn't really offer much in the way of recruiting. This thread is our best option. We're pretty much down to our core. We have a great group of folks who clearly are committed to crunching. The decline here and at WCG is tied to the decline of home PCs as smartphones, tablets and the like take their place. An equally robust and reliable BOINC for those is the responsibility of the Berkeley folks. All WCG can do is ensure their science apps work well there. The long term future of WCG and DC as a whole is going to depend a lot on how well Berkeley delivers on this. As for new projects here, there was a Beta a while back that was for a new project that ran fast and well. It's disappered into the black hole again so who knows. It would seem one is at least in the works and will eventually get sprung on us. As for CEP2, I have the impression (not necessarily accurate) that it is wrapping up and will probably be finished in the near future. I'm MCM1 only, at least until the new project springs. Just 10 months runtime away from five years on it. Oh, and as for the craziness, that was us hosting my daughter's Girl Scout troop here for an overnight. Five giggling, running, screeching, sugar-od'ed 11 year olds is an experience followed only by prepping for them! I survived!  |
