Stopping by the forum to say Merry Christmas (or whatever your seasonal holiday of choice is) to everyone.
I suppose it's not too late to put in my 2 cents about other projects. For years now, I've had at least one other project that I crunch WUs for, but set to lower priority to WCG - typically 3 to 1. During those times when WCG has an outage, either expected or unexpected, I simply let BOINC run normally and crunch the other project(s). That way I don't have to constantly adjust the size of my queues to deal with upcoming outages. If anyone cares, my current "primary secondary" project is milkyway@home , which is creating a 3-D model of our galaxy based on observational data. Yes, MOT has a presence there. And, yes, they have WUs that can run on GPUs. No, it won't cure cancer  , but it could help improve our knowledge of astrophysics. My interest in this stretches back to my time in high school, when I was planning on becoming an astrophysicist... until I took a serious look at the job prospects and determined that being independently wealthy was the surest route to becoming a successful astrophysicist  . - D |
