Nexus 5 Hardware Failure

This might be a coincidence, but my Nexus 5 phone failed since using the BOINC software to crunch at 100%. Again, could totally be a coincidence although I've never had my phone so warm before for so long, and am only imagining this could have contributed to the issue.

For the curious, my phone began freezing yesterday. It became worse this morning where it would reset at the Google logo. Now it won't even turn on despite all the known troubleshooting steps with Google support. It also happens to just beyond the warranty (ouch!). I'm no expert, but believe it is either electrical or something to do with the chipset.

Anyways, if anyone else has a failure in the future then here's the thread to add your example.

Planned obsolescence.
Also not designed to run at 100% 24/7.

Cheers

Re: Nexus 5 Hardware Failure

Heat can be an issue, I had a premature battery failure with my Galaxy S3 but nothing so serious as you've experienced. A new battery and it's both crunching and holding a charge like it used to. If you decide to crunch on your new phone, the BOINC Android client has an option to pause computation when the battery reaches a certain temperature, I think the default is 40C but you can set it to whatever you like.
