Re: Best bang-for-the-buck Android device

After a while, the amlogic S912 TV sticks start to throttle and need to reduce the cpu freq (0.63 GHz at 80 degC), basically making them badge hunters

my new Best bang-for-the-buck Android device is:
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_j7_v-8778.php

https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...ad,40192_offset,40#600984

Did you ever try opening the TV sticks? It looks like they are in two halves and the top could be taken off. At least from the pictures of TV sticks with that processor I found on a google search. Small heatsinks could be added with some thermal adhesive and may make a big difference.

You we're right about cracking them open :). They have a 5x2cm heatsink, the temps dropped by some degrees, but I still cannot leave my finger on for more than 2 seconds thanks to 28nm process smile

Any advice/links on heatsink (2cm*5cm) with thermal adhesive with max height of 1cm and fins?

That's a small area to work with, especially height. Does the tv stick still work with it open? If so, you could leave it open and add something like this but obviously it would be too tall to get the top back on. Or you could cut a square hole in the top to allow the heatsink to stick through. If you wanted to trim the heatsink down I'm sure you could get some cutters or a small hacksaw and trim the height down. I actually use the ones I linked as well as some larger ones on some phones I have where I can apply direct to the chip and they work really well. I never thought to get before and after measurements on thermals, but the heatsinks get really warm telling me they are doing their job.

Recently I've upgraded from 1 to 2 MXQ devices...those are great & only $20.

(yes, I know...I'm revealing my identity!)

But those devices are better for me, as I don't have to mess up with the batteries. & they work both with quad-core ARM CPUs. wink

I stayed there, KLiK, for a few days to celebrate a short vacation, that's all. It was windy one day, if not stormy.

Re: Best bang-for-the-buck Android device

Odroid N2

It generates 86points/h/core which translates to 12,350 points/day for Zika wu.

For comparison my XU4 and XU4Q have an average of 55points/h/core -> 10,600 points/day. To both of them I've added a 5cm fan bought from ebay and I removed the original fan on XU4 because of the noise. So a 16% increase.

@joneill003 reported here that by installing copper heatsinks and noctua fans he got an average of 11,778 points/day. A 5% increase.

So performance is slightly better than XU4 at half the energy consumption: 11W for XU4 with a fan vs 5.5W for N2.
