I have a few pc's that i dont have a permission to install any software.
So i install the BOINC on my computer at home and copy the installation folder to the restrict one. Detached and reattach the agent and everything is working fine. In the section of "Results Status" i can see the "Unit" in progress. After the "Unit" was done i saw in the "Results Status" that it's "Valid". So far so good! Then i go to "Device Statistics" and i don't see the name of the machine! I waited after the website was updated and still, the name of the device not there. In the "Results Status" the "Unit" was valid under the name of the machine so i guess the machine somehow did register to the system even though i did not install the agent. So, is it because i wasn't install the agent or it's usually take more than 25H to update the section "Device Statistics"? Thank You ![]() |

"Don't have permission to install any software" by extension means "No permission to run other than approved software", so if you get caught out circumventing a company policy [assumption], you might still find your fanny to be covered in blisters soon after
![]() The copy is in effect a clone, but should not affect the device name being transmitted with the results. As you saw, on the Result Status page there's the device name against which the statistics are being recorded. They update with new valid work every 12 hours and also show last time a result was returned for the device, no reason why they're not listed separately. Set the device statistics filter to Anytime / Anytime and refresh to see if something changes. |

BTW, if the results are reported and validated, the My Contribution > History would be showing a rise in runtime hours/points/results, regardless of the devices not showing separately.

Same question for me..
----------------------------------------So under the "Claimed/ Granted BOINC Credit" i see 122.0 / 123.3 And the status of course is "Valid". That mean than i earn my point even if the devices name is not showing, right? [Edit 1 times, last edit by TLN_W007 at May 10, 2015 9:00:18 AM] |

Results status will only show the name of machine(s) on which Boinc is installed.
----------------------------------------The name of the machine is the one found in the operating system of the machine when it reports the wu complete and sends it back to the server. When you Borg a computer on which you have no permission to run Boinc you are breaking the rules. There are instances in the past of people losing points gained doing this. ![]() |

Given he -did- do a detach / add and also wrote "In the "Results Status" the "Unit" was valid under the name of the machine" it seems the device [would have expected so], to pick up the device network name during communications. Unclear to me why it's not showing in the device statistics.

Since he did a copy, could it be using the <host_info> data that was already in the client state file? Would a reattach update that info if it already exists. Curious if it was recorded under the old host name.

Each time the client is started up it takes inventory of it's environment which is communicated to the server on first contact. That current info is updated to the necssarily files. E.g. if you rename the hostname and then boot, the client immediately picks up the new name and sends it on next connect to server.
